For some reason, this reminds me of my morning commute when I lived in Miami and had my 911 Carrera.

I'm told that the real story is:

In 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris early in the morning. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine20, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit. The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets.

Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground. It is a classic. Turn on your sound.

The only thing that has gone through Paris faster is the Wehrmacht.

Looked more to me like he filmed a renault or Citroen driving at normal speed, and then sped it up and added a soundtrack. There was no evidence of a wrongdoing since no one could prove how fast the car was going.

Bikers routinely do stunts like this, but most of the ones I've seen show the dash, so you can see how fast they're going. I saw one the other day riding a bike identical to mine somewhere in a highly urban setting moving at triple digit speeds. He did a wheelie at over 100 mph. Utterly insane.

Great post! I need to watch again after a margarita with the larger sound system at home. Hope you don't mind me putting this on the AvSig board with credit to you.

Best,

Dave

I would agree that it really doesn't look like he's going that fast. It's the angle of the camera so close to the ground and the sound track that makes it seem so fast. Still, fun to watch.

the sound of the V12 made my day. the gearshifts and tire squealing matched what was happening so well. if it's fake, it's remarkable editing. even got the echo effect in tunnel and narrow streets. If not fake, you can tell by the engine sound and what gear he is in that he is going VERY fast in places.

I would love to watch this in hi res on a big screen with sound system.

The one I saw was not dissimilar, but you could read the speed off the digital dash and he was pulling triple digit wheelies. Fireblades are truly amazing things.

Funny, I was thinking of that stunt while I was walking around there last year. Lots of room to run a Bonanza under that tower.

Placing the camera close to the ground gives the perception
of a higher speed. I'm not sure he's going that fast. Having made
some double+ the speed limit runs in my 350z through the country
side (location shall remain unnamed to protect the guilty), I doubt
the speed claim.

That baby 3.3 litre V-12 sounds nice, but it has no balls. See how lon it took him to wrap up and get into high gear? At that shift he was probably around 95. They were good looking cars, I liked the old 275 GTS, thought it was one of Pininfarina's more elegant designs. It's not a fast car though, in top tune it's 300hp as factory built. It sounds like it was an older SOHC engine rather than a later DOHC.

I may or may not travel in the triple digits on a semi-regular basis. That car is *SLOW*. Almost all of that video is under 100 mph. I doubt the fast parts are much above that.

My bandit through that route would be a way cooler video--but--I'm not interested in going to jail.
