After wanting to move to an airpark for many years, we finally completed our move to Indian Hills Airpark in Salome Arizona.

Yesterday morning my 12 year old Westie encountered a venomous toad in the back yard. Within a minute she was having seizures. The vet couldn't save her.

I am totally bummed out--- snakes, scorpions, I knew about but a damn
toad !!

I've had dogs all my life but I don't think I'll have another. It's just too tough to lose them.

Sorry about Pooch. I've been to your airpark several times (bought Fred Allen's Cessna 180) but had no idea I was in that much danger. WTH kind of toad was it? Where's the closest vet?

Yes it is. My last 4 dogs were forced on me by my wife and kids. I was eventually glad but have lost 1 and it almost killed me. The only sensible reason to keep doing it is that there are so many out there who need good homes. I'm real sorry Paul. A freeking toad? You protect them from so many things... No one ever mentioned toads to ME. Grapes and raisins yes but not toads.

Condolences, Paul. My heart breaks the same no matter how many times we've been through it.

Man that is ashame sorry to hear it. Poisionious toad wow! What did he do eat it?

edit: just saw this from the above site WOW

Because dogs are more curious and extroverted, they tend to be treated for toad poisoning more often. But a dog doesn't necessarily have to lick or eat a toad to be poisoned. There have been cases where frogs have been attracted to a dog's water dish and sat along the rim. Enough toxin can be left to make a dog sick.

Paul, we have two Westies and just adore them. I'm very sorry that happened. Hopefully, once you see your way through it there will be another pet in you future. Thanks for the heads up on the toad. Never would have thought about that.

Best,

Dave

Awwww, I'm so sorry to hear that. How sad. :( It just breaks your heart to lose a pet, especially like that, when it's so unexpected.

After our last kitty died, we swore we would never get another...it's just way too painful when they die. But, we saw our present kitties at the shelter and had to take them home.

Paul, I grieve with you...

My avatar is Haley, our 8 year old Westie...sitting right below my feet waiting for something to "happen"

Thanks for the heads up on the toads...Haley will chase a lizard on command...

Paul, I'm very sorry. I know that I would be a wreck if I lost my dog. Of course, given how much time I spend around dogs in my position, if that happened it probably wouldn't be long before I had another one.

Sorry to hear about dog. I lost one last summer after 15.5 years. It's hard to take. I said never again! Well 8 months later I started looking to fill the whole in my life and in June we brought another baby home. I have had a dog all my life and you really start missing not having one around.

Paul, Beth and I send our condolences. That's very sad and we wish ya'll the best.

My condolences... and another hazard for other dog owners to be aware of (new one on me, especially the idea that a dog's water bowl can be contaminated).

As you say, Tom...

Paul, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I had a little fawn Pug that had a blood disorder. I spent $1000 trying to save his little life. He died on the operating table. I wept bitterly as I placed him in the ground wrapped in his favorite blanket.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
