While feeding my "planes for sale" addiction, this morning I came across these planes that must be some sort of "I don't want to sell but I've gotta sell" situation...
I think all three of these will be for sale for awhile (unless I'm missing something):

You see things like this in every category. I'm into collectible advertising and old book cases and every now and then you'll find something like a Coke sign that might sell for $2K advertised for $15K. And you think they'll never sell it, so why even advertise...but once in a blue moon you'll look back at an ad and see where it's sold.

It goes with the ol' phrase,

"Honey it's either me or the airplane...."

"CLEAR PROP!"
Lol. Years ago I went to the motorcycle store. There was a used bike on the floor. Had less than a hundred miles on it. I asked what happened, did he miss his first payment? Nope. He buys the bike. Rides home. Says honey, look at what I got. "Honey" doesn't say a word, turns around, goes into house. Comes down a little while later, bags packed and says "call me when it's gone."

Ouch my wife is usually my partner in crime. She actually talked me into buying my airplane when I was on the fence about it.

Also, if anyone is in the market for overpaying on a plane, I'll sell you my Cherokee 140 for 60k.

Where do you see that language?

Far more common situation with private airplane sellers than I imagined. Usually in a transaction its the seller that has to qualify the buyer. But after repeatedly wasting time on sellers of airplanes that "didn't really want to sell", I learned if one is a serious shopper/buyer you need to qualify the seller right up front or you too will waste your time.

Truer words never spoken...and also why I'm gonna try and keep my current plane. I don't want to be a buyer again.

10 years later and she's still waiting for that phone call.

That is what should have happened but since the bike was back at the dealer obviously the dude caved. Major PW.

I saw that Aircoupe ad and blew right by it, based on the price. I guess if someone is nostalgic for the model, and has plenty of discretionary income, maybe it'll fetch that much. It looks pristine, the engine is low time, as is the airframe, but it falls into the "day VFR for fun" category. Not a lot of utility beyond just fun flying - which is OK, but at that price? Must have sat for long periods, as well, during the last half century. ..

So why did he turn it back in? :D

1st Airplane - Van Bortel is a dealer and I believe they own most/all? of their inventory. They are known for only buying the best examples on the market, so it is likely a fully restored plane.
2nd Airplane - 200 hour engine and a GTN 750 in the Beech Skipper. This is most likely just an unrealistic owner trying to get his (over) investment back.
3rd Airplane - Cessna 150 with a highish time air-frame, but a fresh overhaul on the engine and "new" interior but nothing to speak of in the panel. Yeah, this one fits the story of the spouse telling him to sell.

The Cessna 150 is priced that way because it's an Aerobat. The market seems to value them at about double the price of a normal C150. However, it's still a bit steep.

You're right about the first and the third plane, but look again at that skipper. It says "750 not included"

Unless that's a turbine aerobat, that's still nuts.

These aren't selling prices, they are keeping prices.

I've been boat shopping, bought one this week, it's amazing to see two boats, very similar priced at huge differences! One, with a tower is priced $150K less than one without a tower, same engines, same interior, similar electronics!

So I'm guessing that you didn't wind up buying your old boat back?

Here's another one:

That's probably the world's nicest Apache, but it's still an Apache. Why would anyone put that much money into an Apache? If you wanted a dressed up Piper twin, wouldn't you at least start with an Aztec?

Wow. Somebody really worked that one over.
Cheaper on fuel than an Aztec, but no boots. Which seems to negate much of the benefit of all that instrumentation. Did a flight today where I crossed an occluded front and the freezing level was 7500 ASL. Not sure I would try the same thing in that Geronimo.

No, the guy is bipolar!! He wants to sell, he doesn't want to sell, rinse and repeat!!
I ended up buying a 45 foot Layton, it's a Carolina custom boat. It was built for a retired fighter pilot in 2004, he passed away last fall and I stumbled across it while talking to a broker about a different boat. He was getting ready to list it for the widow and I had to wait a week to see it, but I think it'll be good for us. Should close in about 10 days, they are doing some repairs that we found on the survey. I'm pretty excited to have a big boat in the fleet again!! :D

There's an RV on VAF right now where the seller wants a signed purchase contract and full payment in escrow before you can view the plane. No surprise it's been there for a while.

Only when he matches the escrow money, and the purchase contract has a right to refuse clause for the buyer.

Careful about disclosing this info. You're bound to get countless pm's seeing if she has any sisters.

Regarding the Beech Skipper... I offered them $38k with the 750 or $23K without.... and the $23K was a gift. The conversation was not too enthusiastic after that.
