LogTen Pro (not LogTen Pro X) on Current iOS?

If you're cheap like me and thought paying $75 was enough for a logbook database you might still be using LogTen Pro, not the subscription product, LogTen Pro X. Of course Coradine hasn't updated the old LogTen Pro software, but it's still been working after many subsequent iOS updates. Has anyone who uses LogTen Pro updated to iOS 10 and does it still work? Does syncing between an iPhone and iPad still work?

When LogTen Pro does stop working I'll probably switch to one of the free alternatives, but I do like the program and would like to keep using it as long as possible.

If I don't hear any response I'll back up my flight times, try it myself, and post my experience here.
 
I'm unable to answer your questions either but if you someday want to use a free web based option, I use flightlogg.in and it serves my purposes well.
 
I stopped using LogTen Pro on my iPad about a year ago. Fortunately, I got in on the lifetime LogTen Pro X for the desktop offer. Still using 6.5.1 though. I'll get around to migrating eventually. I sure as hell don't plan on paying a subscription. I understand their reasoning though.

What logbook app do you use?

Joshua, I'm sure Flightlogg is a fine program, repetitive consonants aside, but an aviation app doesn't help me much if I have to be tethered to the internet to use it.

Paper as primary, because after like three or four electronic ones over the years, guess which one always works? Paper and a calculator.

And the stuff @EricBe makes. ;)

(MyFlightBook is the current electronic logbook "experiment". Like all of them, auditing to get it accurate against the paper is pretty much a lost cause, but I'm slowly working on it.)

I have LogTenPro on my iPhone, iPad, & Mac. I've only updated my phone to iOS 10 and so far the app does still work, and I can still sync to my iPad, but it has developed some quirks. What I've noticed so far is that the "Locked" slider reverts back to off when I leave the entry page. The other issue is that my instrument currency on the radar page doesn't seem to work anymore. (It always shows 0) Oddly, all of the other totals seem to be calculating correctly.

If I enter data on the phone and sync to the iPad, the iPad (not running iOS 10) displays and calculates the data correctly and the locked slider says on.

There may be other issues I just haven't discovered yet. I'm sure it'll eventually reach the point where it'll stop working all together or be useless. When that happens I will have to find another solution because I will NOT pay $75/year for a logbook subscription, especially for an app that I already paid for.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. I just updated iPhone and iPad, LogTen Pro seem to work fine for me in iOS 10, this morning's flight synced no problem. Don't know about IFR currency, I'm VFR, but Day and Night Currency seems to work fine. I've never actually seen a "locked" slider within the LogTen Pro App, so don' know about that.

Agreed re: paying a huge subscription fee for an app I bought outright. From the reviews, I don't think we're alone.

It's at the bottom of the page where you enter your flight information and locks the data so it can't be accidently changed.

Oddly, my day and night currency seem to still be working fine too, only the instrument currency stopped working.

As I recall, that's a setting in the config. Whether you want new entries automatically locked after saving them. But it's been a few years.
 
When first opening LogTen Pro after updating to iOS 10.1 a message pops up on both iPhone and iPad, ""LogTen Pro" May Slow Down Your iPad/iPhone. The developer of this app needs to update it to improve its compatibility."

Not bloody likely. This could be the beginning of the end.

I am using 6.5.1 on my iPad and would like to use the desktop Mac version as well. Have you found that you can migrate your data from the iOS device sync'd to iCloud to the Mac? Thanks, Tony

I never used the cloud for syncing, so I really couldn't tell you. However, assuming the two versions are matched, you should be able to. However, if you're using LTP X, then they probably won't sync. The folks at Corridine might be able to do it for you though. They're pretty responsive to requests like that, assuming it's a one time deal.

Why most apps would need to be 64-bit baffles me.
 
LogTen still working here on IOS 10.2 ... but! Tried today to export the data to work on importing it into another program, and LogTen crashes every time I try to export. Hope I don't have to copy it all out by hand; you may want to check the export before you enter too much additional data, if you have any thoughts of switching platforms.
Turns out the problem was because I didn't have an email account set up in the iOS "Mail" app. Rather than give an error, the program just crashed. TIL.

Edited to add -- I found an official statement on the old LogTen and what functionality may be broken now that it's abandoned in favor of the subscription service.

LogTen Pro 6 Known Issues
LogTen Pro 6 was designed for iOS 5 and Mac OS 10.7 “Lion” back in 2011. LogTen Pro X is our new, continuously updated logbook platform introduced in 2014, and is designed to fully support the latest operating systems and devices. If you continue to use version 6, we will always do our best to support you, and answer any questions you have, however it is no longer being updated so there are a growing number of known issues if you try to use it on systems introduced after it was retired in 2014. While we no longer test version 6, here is a partial list of issues we are aware of that may effect you.

  • Wifi sync with iPad is NOT supported and could lead to data loss
  • iCloud Drive is not supported- Flights can no longer be locked in iOS 10
  • It’s not possible to configure fields on iOS 10, E.g. you can't add the Dual Given time field if you don't already have it, and if you do, you won't be able to remove it.
  • You may see display issues with the from and to fields on the Mac
  • In some rare cases the groups on Mac may display in minutes, rather than hours
  • You may see blank criteria for smart groups

It was time to move on from LogTen a loooooong time ago. :)
 
What is there to move on to for the Mac guys?

Don't really want to put my stuff out on the 'net.

Fortunately, I got in on the X for life deal as a previous customer.

How'd you get a "for life" deal? That's what we thought we had for $75, but he started charging that per year, hence us trying to see how long we can keep using the old program.

Can't remember all the details, but there was something where if you downloaded X for MAC during a certain time frame, then current customers would get it for life. It was kind of a "toss 'em a bone" thing when the whole subscription thing blew up.


Of course, I haven't actually used X, but I did get it when the offer was made. Just haven't taken the time to set it up.

I remember now, that was for Mac only. I use LogTen only on iPhone and iPad(until it stops working,) what I have with me when I fly.
 
OK, today is the day, IOS 11 is here. Anyone install and confirm our old Log Ten Pro app no longer works? I thought I'd have moved to a new logbook by now, but inertia.

I'm in the same boat, I never got around to migrating to another logbook and I skipped the last couple of iOS updates on my backup iPad so LogTen Pro would continue to calculate currencies correctly. I'm sure it won't be long before the other apps on that iPad (i.e. ForeFlight) stop working until I update it's iOS, forcing me into a corner.

MyFlightbook looks promising but the thought of exporting out of LogTen Pro and then importing into MyFlightbook is less than appealing to me right now.

I also settled on MyFlightbook as being the best alternative to LTP, but it seemed like I was helping build a database of aircraft rather than my own logbook. MFB appears to be a cloud based logbook, I personally make 99% of my entries when I don't have an internet connection (above 10,000'.) If I'm misinformed about this app, please lmk.

I'm going to see how long I can hold out before upgrading to iOS 11. After checking, (On your phone or pad go to Settings > General > About, and then look for Applications in the list,) turns out I have 35 apps that haven't been re-written for 64 bit.
 
I seem to remember some other thread about OS updates effecting apps in a negative way. Hmmm...
 
@EricBe can tell ya if the MFB Apps will work without network and upload later. I dunno. I don't do it aloft.

Note that there are a number of inaccuracies about MyFlightbook in this review. For example, it says that MyFlightbook doesn't have an 8710 form (it does), that it doesn't support electronic signatures (it does), and that it doesn't support custom fields (I address this with an ever-expanding list of additional "flight properties", which I think is a better solution to the problem that custom fields tries to address.
 
Have new phone, of course not compatible with old LTP 32 bit. Keeping iPad on ios 10 while trying out other logbooks. ForeFlight Logbook was much easier migrating to than FF's tutorials/videos led me to believe. Don't need to have any spreadsheet knowledge at all:

1) Sync logbook on all devices.
2) On iPad: Reports>Exporters> "Export Flights (tab)" and "Export Aircraft" email these two files to yourself.
3) On Computer: Drop both files onto box at: plan.foreflight.com/logbook
4) Wait a few minutes and check your iPad or phone. I had to set up Currency Summaries again and tell ForeFlight which planes have tailwheel or tricycle gear, that's all.

I'd been putting this off because I thought I had to really know how to use MS Excel or lose tons of data.

If anyone knows simple ways to migrate to the other logbooks, please post. I'm particularly interested in trying MyFlightbook. If I was a commercial pilot, I'd stay with LogTen Pro, X, Centurion, or whatever they're calling it now, but as a Private Pilot I'd rather not pay rent on a logbook.

ForeFlight logbook has had fine functionality for me as a VFR PPL. I have found two annoying bugs that I've reported awhile ago, but unfortunately they have not yet addressed:

1 / Time entered is converted from h.dd to h:mm internally, rather than storing as decimal, but the resolution of the conversion is only 0.1 (0:06). My EFIS displays h.dd so that's what I enter, out of laziness -- the internal rounding error adds up over a number of flights.

2 / Commas in the comments field are replaced with spaces in the CSV export, rather than properly quoting the strings. Ugh.

MyFlightbook can generally import LTP or Foreflight exports without too many problems; I'm always happy to help when there are issues.

MyFlightbook was also an easy import. I exported the .csv file from ForeFlight and went to this page: https://myflightbook.com/logbook/Member/Import.aspx

I had some errors, a couple phantom aircraft I had to delete and some night landings without corresponding night flight time. Did the fixes in Excel (super easy, I'm an Excel novice) and then re-uploaded the fixed .csv file. Took 1/2 hr.

MyFlightbook appears to handle more varied data than ForeFlight logbook.
