I need to be more visible. I go to a lot of fly-ins and I'm thinking I should wear a shirt that let's people know who I am.

I'm looking for POA input. What should I do? Where do I go to get it done?

I was thinking something that says:
Jack Fleetwood
Aviation Photography

I think I want a logo too. Could be my initials, an airplane, a photography logo, or some combination of them. What would catch your eye?
 
These days you can design t shirts yourself online. Also can do a nice 3 button collared shirt, cap, mug, frisbee, coasters, etc. Checkout vista print.

You are going to want to look official, so maybe a hang tag id that has your pic, name, and “press” on it. Or “professional photographer”.
 
for the monkey shirts I used customink.com but I also think someone on PoA does this stuff, I'm sorry I can't recall who it was.
 
I'd do a nice white pocket T with one of your best afternoon golden glow nice prop disc pictures BIG on the back, and your logo/business info in attractive colors on upper left breast pocket on the front.
 
If you wear T-shirts, use one of your pics of your plane. That will catch people's eye.

you could write: "Your Plane Here"
above it and
"Jack Fleetwood Aviation Photography" below it.

Then for promo purposes you can send a similar shirt with each shoot. People will wear them, get the question, and refer you.

The only thing about using one of my photos is, an airshow friend of mine did it and it made my photo look bad! I think I would prefer something simple on the left breast area. I could be wrong though... that's why I asked for help!

@mscard88 isn't around so I'll just say... thousands of husbands are getting slapped by their wives and saying "I was looking at the plane."

But seriously, there are printing techniques to enhance the image quality, which was probably not the main purpose of that shirt with sponsors and such listed.

If you want to get some real exposure at the field, you need a bubbly bleach blonde assistant.
 
Well, I asked for advice, and didn't go with any of it! I may change it up at some point, but for around $100 total, I ordered these to check out. If I don't like them, not a big deal. I didn't order any hats yet, but designed them anyway.

This... but replace the actual airplane with a dashed outline of an airplane.
 
Doubtful anyone would look at it and say "WOW," I need that dashed outline.

A high quality repro of the picture is why it could draw interest.

Very clean design...I like it!!
 
Don't know if the detail would translate well to embroidery.... but a logo idea I like would be a caricature of you hanging 2/3rds out of an airplane holding a camera taking a picture.

I'd recommend something like a camera reticle overlaying an airplane. Something like this, only as a simplified line drawing....

At a number of events I've attended, the people that are wearing a clean, well fit, polo with a logo on the chest and another on a sleeve seem to get attention as looking "professional". Another thing to consider are those Columbia fishing-style shirts in short-sleeve. They also look good when embroidered with a nice logo.


The shirts you ordered will look good.

I haven't given up on that idea for t-shirts, just wanted to get started!

PS: I really like that blue/gray color.

The hat? To be honest, maybe brutal, the first thing I thought was:

I'm not a big hat guy. I wear one when out in the sun a lot though. Not sold on the design 100%! Although I guess I could throw my hat at you guys when you're out of line...

What do you generally at these events? Set up a booth? Walk around and take pictures while handing out cards?

At some places I've been, photographers will have some sort of online photo gallery. They'll upload photos either during the day or at the end of the day. Their cards will have the website where a potential customer can view the photo proof, then either order online or have a contact e-mail to order a reprint or download a full-resolution.

I used to take a lot of photos at events, but I’m more geared toward air-to-air photos only now. It’s what I enjoy doing. If I can get a photo shoot in while at an event, it’s a lot of fun. What you’re talking about sounds like work!

Put together a nice 3-fold with some of your portfolio on it. Print up a bunch and hand them out, take a few courtesy shots while you are at it.

One problem I see at some events is that you might be considered a "vendor" and need to register. That's not all bad, because you might end up with a lanyard and badge and look even more official.
 
Logo idea. A "J" that looks like a face - eyes and smile on the left of the upright and a nose attached to the right side. Then an "F" that looks like one of those old box cameras - wavy lines ending in a lens just to the right of the top of the "F." The "F is slightly lower than the "J" so the eyes are looking over the camera.
 
Maybe something that mimics an Air Force unit patch?

Jack, I like the polos, but you need a more memorable name for your business, so that those who don’t ask for a business card will still remember it a few days later.

For us baby-boom rockers, it would be very effective to flip the name of the business around. “Fleetwood Jack” would stick with people.

Just a thought.

I’m not changing the name again, but, I do tell people that they can remember me by thinking Fleetwood Mac!

Several years back when I fancied that I'd make a bit of coin building custom golf clubs, I went to a graphic artist and had her design a logo for me. A good artist can take your ideas and convert them into art that works in print, on fabric, and as embroidery. The cost wasn't all that much and the graphic was a million times better than anything I could have dreamed up. Your logo looks great but I'd still point you toward someone with a graphics art background. I was lucky; we had several working at my place of employment so finding one was stupid easy.
 
Like your logo.

I use www.designcrowd.com for all our logos and layouts. You set the parameters, budget, concept and free lancers all over the world submit their designs hoping to win the bid.
