This poor Malibu was left here over 3.5 years ago and forgotten by its owners. The Malibu hit a deer on landing then had horrible repairs made on the wing by a shop in the SE US. They finally brought it to KHUT to make it fly normally again. The RH wing was repaired without a fixture to maintain the required 3 degree twist (it had 4.5 degrees).

This was a real mess the pilot shielded us from the owners (I never knew them), they released the insurance funds to the repairing shop, the shop also kept the books, and the insurance company refused to pay for repairs twice.

After about a year we moved it outside where I tried to keep it out of the way of mother nature. I was always ready to find it balled up in the field some morning. It's sad that it's final home will be the salvage yard.

Scott,
No matter what I try I cannot get photos to post on this website. I had to link to my Flickr stream instead. How can I just grab something off my desktop and post?

Thanks,
Kevin

There was an ancient, bare metal Archer on the ramp at KFWQ for at last 4 years: tires flat, plastic over the wing root, bird's nests, etc.

One day I arrived early in the AM to move the Chief from FWQ to MGW (another temporary home before WAY).

Two guys were near the bird with the door open and some shiny new metal on the formerly exposed wing root.

I later saw the local IA and asked him if he knew about the airplane. "Sure, but when they asked me to put a vacuum pump on with no paperwork I told them to get lost."

I looked for an NTSB or some news report because there was no way that wreck flew to FL (the intended destination).

I guess it did? :dunno:

In the edit window click on the paperclip icon, it is to the right of the smiley face. This will open up another window.

In that window you will see several fields. The top one is labeled 'Upload From Your Computer' and has a 'Browse' button to the right of that.

Select the 'Browse' button and then file you wish to upload. When you have selected between 1 and 4 files then select the 'Upload' button to the right of the 4th 'Browse' button.

Depending on your Internet uplink speed this will take from a few seconds to several minutes.

One of the guys at our airport has two planes. He has a very nice 182 that he keep hangared and flies a lot. His other plane is a 172RG that I have not seen flown in over 4 years. What shame too! We really could use an aircraft for commercial training in the area and since this one is not going to be bought, putting on rental might at least keep it flying enough to stay maintained. I know the owner paid a big annual repair bill and then only had 5 hours on the Hobbs by the time the next annual came up. His bill was then almost twice what he paid the year before.

I can understand this happening to maybe a Cherokee 140. But a Malibu? Just walking away?? Yikes.

Thanks for the help Scott, I understand aircraft much better than the computer.

This airplane showed up with many other problems, like an engine full of metal and a crushed rear bulkhead. To correct the wing repair and complete the annual put them in this deal completely upside down. I think the logs could have been bought from the repairing shop that wasn't paid there insurance deductible. I believe who ever released the funds and accepted the repair was part of the problem on no further communication and delivery of any funds to start repairs.

I wanted the airplane for scrap and could have easily bought the ship, but there's been to many changes in my plans over the last year. Who needs 3 planes? I really need a break.

Kevin
