Lego aircraft carrier

I love Legos as much as the next 24 year old (nerdy) guy, but DAMN; the stuff people think to do with their free time!

If he takes that carrier into battle, there's going to be lego pieces in that lake for centuries.

You said it! But I aspire to having that kind of free time. This is awesome stuff.

They have a Lego Godzilla, A Lego Chicago skyline, a giant Lego spider, and many others, and a Lego security guard out front.

Lego's should never ever come with instructions on how to put them together. A few pictures of concept ideas that were done is one thing. Instructions in a lego box is just soooo WRONG.

I'm betting she has little, if any, personal life. That's a big critter.

Furthermore, how the heck do you justify financing something like that? That's gotta be equivalent to a decently equipped, single engine bird.
It's at Legoland. My guess is she's an employee or an artist hired to do it.

Look at the lego "cleats" on the flight deck. No need to tie those planes down!

You might be surprised just how quick you can snap that stuff together...

For that dragon, 2200 hours, according to the caption. That's roughly 13 months full time equivalent with no vacations or holidays.

2200 hrs for 1 million pieces? that's over 7 pieces a minute on average without counting design an other non construction time. I'd say that's pretty quick.

Volvo is one of Vail Resorts Corporate Alliance Partners. A couple of years ago, they had a full sized Volvo sedan made out of Lego's sitting outside at the entrance to Lionshead Village for the entire winter.

It wasn't until you got really close that you realized it wasn't even a car, but that it was made of Lego's!

This one?

That's gonna be hard on buffing pads!

:hairraise:Complete with a liscense plate and everything. That must have been computer designed!

There are computers programs out there for building something with legos before hand. I'm not sure how much it assists you and for some people this is a career.

It'd be pretty nuts to build something like that without creating it virtually first. Still a hell of a feat.

Pfffft! Virtual Lego design.... I think my mom may still have an attic full of my Legos. Half the fun was letting things grow organically like art.

IMNSHO, the entire principle behind lego's is to be creative and design as you go along. It's about art, not predesigned assembly line work. Computer lego modeling and instructions completely defeat the purpose of their existence. The design should be in your head and modified as needed as you go along.

A substantial portion of my ability to build and design things to do what needs to be done (very seldom with prefabricated pieces) is based on lego's, an erector set, tinker toys, and wood, saw and nails. That complete lack of instructions and predesigned concepts is the base of the magik that leaves people standing around wondering how I came up with a solution to an unfixable situation.

When you start talking about the restrictions of lego as a building block combined with the complexity of some of these builds it'd be absolutely silly to try and do it 'on the fly'. One little need for a small change and you'd be completely screwed. These guys are pushing legos further then they're really intended and because of that need to put some planning into it before-hand.
