My plan is to upgrade my anti-collision lighting system with flashing LEDs on the wingtips. I am familiar with the Whelen Orion series and the AeroLED products. Are there any other manufacturers making these systems for certificated aircraft? Any pireps on any of these products? Thanks for all feedback!

These are great plug and play replacements for a “common part” replacements such as a light bulb.

I have installed a set of the WAT OR650s with the tail OR500, the aircraft did not have any lighting installed on the rudder so there is no impact to balanced flight controls in my case. The aircraft did not have any existing wingtip or tail strobe so all that needed wires run to them, and while at it we installed sync wire between all of them.

You can actually replace the lenses on the WAT Orion series units where other ones are not replaceable.

Be sure to immediately inspect any you receive from shipping as there may be a dead LED(s) on any of the assemblies, no matter who made them.

Updated mine last year. Easy install.

Removed existing Whelen A600 Position/Stobe wingtip lighting with Whelen OR6001 LED wingtip lighting. Used existing wiring. Removed A600 power supply.

Very happy with the new LEDs.

Thanks for feedback... question: does the Whelen system have different options for the flashing sequence. For example can it be setup for a double-flash with each wingtip synchronized?

They are synchronized if you connect the two wingtips with a sync wire, but they are single (very bright) flash only. My aircraft had a sync wire running between the old Whelen power supplies, so I used it for the LEDs as well.

As stated, if you connect a sync wire. I used the existing wiring harness and connected where the harness came together at the old stobe PS. I did not run a sync wire as it would have run up the labor hours. So, over time the wingtip LED stobes will go out of sync.
