Cleared for Takeoff
In the interest of avoiding a full-blown SWAT attack at my house, I've been trying to get information about the FAA's opinion on those laser "holiday lights" or "landscape lights". They've been around for a few years, but are becoming increasingly popular as the price drops. They are sold everywhere, including "as seen on TV", Home Depot, WallyWorld, and all over the Internet. I just bought one on the Internet for $13.

In normal use, these WILL shine at least some some spots into the air. Granted, it's one tiny, weak, laser beam refracted into tens-of-thousands of dots.... but. Some of the manufacturers mention they are FAA compliant, if used at least 1 mile from airports, but there is nothing in FAA regs that I've seen saying anything about lasers and 1 mile.
So far, I have not been get an answer from the nearby airport, or any word from the "Laser Event" people at the FAA. KDVT suggested I call a FSDO
