And was there another runway at that airport that you could have landed on? I was on a long cross country once and planned to land for fuel at an uncontrolled tower, upon getting a closer look at the runway (appeared to be all snow covered due to recent snow storm), I said to forget that idea and went to a controlled tower instead. I did not want to risk getting stuck without being able to radio for quick help.
