Wow some real low lifes with this one.

Kermit Weeks is trying to figure out who stole the engine out of a plane he flew in numerous flying competitions."I flew it in four world aerobatic championships," said Weeks, a plane collector and aerobatic pilot. "I won 12 medals in this airplane for the U.S. Aerobatic Team behind this engine."
The engine weighs 300 pounds.
"Somebody came and literally cut the engine mount off," Weeks said. "This is all welded steel tubing that I put together."

Dang, that's just despicable! Isn't it a federal crime, too? He's offering a $5K reward.

How could that not be an inside job. Someone had to know which engine was in which airplane, unless someone has been cutting out engines at random.

I wonder if somebody just got really mad as him for some reason and decided to get even.

This is common in Florida. Airboaters love air cooled aircraft engines, especially high power ones.

We had a bunch stole around here a few years ago using the same method by cutting it off at the mounts.

Battery operated reciprocating saws need to be registered.

The teefts are known to crawl a under vehicle and slice off the catalytic converters, too.

pedantic ex-cop, here... they "stole", but they didn't "rob" (which requires force or the threat of force against the person). ;)

hey, I said I was being pedantic... now, back to the thread!

Those guys are jerks! I hate a thief!

Un freaking beleivable! What is with people. This could not have been easy to do I mean it takes at least a decent hoist. Grrrrrr

I bet Kermit would like to cut something else off at its "mounts"

If you click through on the original picture, it looks like the plane was in pieces, maybe in storage for restoration at the museum? I don't see much behind the firewall gap...

Where's the Airplane Security Service when you need it? Oh, wait, I meant TSA. ;)

How people can get away with this kind of theft amazes me. If I tried to steal a candy bar at a 7-11 I would end up doing hard time sharing a cell with a fat bike gang leader.

So, the proper headline should be: Kermit Weeks Thefted

There's reasonably priced security devices to effectively protect and alert owners to such thefts...
