yep - it's that time of year already - yes, I know it's "Fall" ... as in "Wow! Look at the snow FALL!!@!!@!" ...

got this today regarding getting into the hangars tomorrow to button up the Saratoga after the annual.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wednesday, 10/28, 6 p.m.

Our ramp area probably saw a snow plow around noon. Ramp snow was about 6" deep. Drifts in front of our hangars were 4 feet. The roof snow load looked heavy, with about one foot of beautifully sculptured snow overhang that looked threatening.

The snow removal protocol used at BJC leaves a four foot swath in front of the hangars (which also leaves the drifts) for the renter to move.

Weekend sunshine will make a big difference, but right now it looks like a herculean job to get a plane out. Getting back in will be even worse. Please plan accordingly.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have 20" of snow on the flat protected areas at my house this morning.

Now, now Greg, we all know it never snows in Colorado. The state is a desert. We just pretend to have storms so the tourists will show up to spend money to ski the man-made snow in the mountains.

If there really was 20" of snow in my driveway I couldn't make it out of the house to go to a meeting this afternoon. Of course it only took me an hour and a half to make it so I could get out of the driveway...but there is no snow.

There's 24" on the ground in Golden right now.
And it's still snowing.

Well, my meeting was canceled but it wasn't because of snow. Everyone was just going home early today.

My dog has learned the concept of an infinite loop....

forever {
3-4 inches of snow falls
I shovel off patio and clear out doggie door
dog goes outside, plays for a while
dog comes back inside and shakes all the snow off in the den. why can't he do
this in the kitchen? It's closer to the doggie door!
}

I'm in west kansas (Aurora, CO) and have almost 2 feet of snow in the back yard. Not even sure I want to go out to the hangar this weekend to shovel the 2 feet. On the other hand, I only need to shovel the 3 tracks where the wheels need to go...

Of course I-70 is closed at Airpark to the CO/KS border. On the other hand, I've never been stopped when I explain I need to get to the airport. The sheriff & highway patrol consider us residents of the area.

My meeting got pushed to tomorrow and that's followed be another meeting to prep for Dallas trip next week. Dallas trip may turn into Houston-n-Dallas trip.

Wish the Dakota was available for the trip but I'm thinkin' the broken motor mount sort of puts it out of service.

Anyway, right now I'm planning to be out at FTG on Saturday to finish prepping for the annual inspection and pulling the engine. It's pretty much ready but I want to do a little more cleaning and see if I can expose the interior side of the firewall/engine mount bolts.

It sounds like you guys got hammered and, judging from the radar, looks like it still going. We didn't get much in the banana belt here in the mountains. :)

I'll help shovel snow at a hangar for a spin in the airplane. :)

I remember the first year I moved to Colorado mowing my lawn when it started to snow. That was a first. Loved it!

We shot the ILS back into KAPA this afternoon. Then I managed to high center my car in the middle of the road on a snowdrift driving home and some nice guy with a big truck tugged me out. Now I finished shoveling my driveway and am wondering about my 8 am airline flight tomorrow. Actually I'm not wondering so much about the flight but driving to the airport, especially the part that includes getting out of my subdivision.

So the Sube has serious FIKS limitations?

Come on over on Saturday. Looks like it'll be great just about everywhere. I'm thinking Canon City or Pueblo or even Salida if the winds are calm.

FTG T41 E7 (on the south end, east side)

But be aware, the cherokee doesn't spin....

Well, United is cancelling some flights, Frontier may also but there's no word yet. For me, the problem is just getting out of the garage. When the service plows, it's just like the hangar - a 2 foot wall against the garage door I need to shovel out.

The flight is on Frontier. So far it shows "on time". We'll see.

Hammered is Christmas '83 or '84 storm in Denver. (never remember the year) Drifts over 10 feet in front of the house. Friends from out of town, who expected to go skiing, ended up staying with me for 3 days. Thank heavens for sleeper sofas and a 60 gal hot water heater.

Geez... We are gettin ripped off.. You guys are getting all our snow ...:mad3::nono:

Good. Keep sending it this way. I want a repeat of 2006/2007 when I got hit with 13 feet of snow over 2 and a half months. It was great fun.

Bring it on. I already started my snow village this year:

I'm just hoping it all melts off within the next couple of weeks...

The drive from Houston to Vail is long enough, but to do half of it in the snow makes for a very long trip!
I will probably hit snow on the ground in Amarillo...

18 days and counting....

I'm sitting at the airport and it's still on time. I don't think there are any delays this morning. I left really early just in case, but even the roads in my subdivision had been plowed by 4am. It was calm and clear, a world of difference from last night.

In a couple weeks you can probably make the entire trip on a motorcycle in summer weight gear and not be cold, much less on snow.

AIRC, any Houston rezident thinks anything below 60 degrees is cold and a coat is required...

I used to live in Utah (Ogden/Layton area) and was always surprised by the number of accidents on the highways when it snowed.

I realized that the residents are so accustomed to snow and weather conditions that their day (and their drive to work) didn't change because it snowed. Here in Pennsylvania we get a few good storms a year and things get a bit messed up, people drive cautiously, etc, etc...

In Utah - people were still movin along at 60-70 MPH even though the road was well covered.

Not taking a jab at Utah drivers by any means, just an observation while I was there.

Loved the area, it was very beautiful. Wish I had my license when I lived there, would have made for some great trips.

Fun commute in from the foothills this morning ... everything in our area was covered in a finely polished, smooth coating of ice. The ice was so smooth and even that the Zamboni was parked on the side, and Nancy and Tonya were duking it out over the best triple axle on the corner of 52nd and Indiana.

Glad I don't have to be downtown until later. Lunch in the backroom of the Rock Bottom at 11:30 if'n yer hungry today.

Oh yea. I forgot that bit since 60F is summer riding weather here. Just wear Antarctic extreme weather gear. That might buy you half an hour before hypothermia sets in at 45F.

Cool! Actually, downtown was pretty good on the morning drive. Once I hit I-70, the deicer had done a good job on clearing the ice. The bridges and overpasses on Park Ave were just wet (yeah, I know - that observation can be the kiss of death on black ice, but they really were 'just wet').

I have a work lunch today, or I would love to join you at Rockbottom!

Me, a Houston resident? hahahahahahahah
I have lived in Vail for 25 yrs! I much prefer the cold to the hot/ humid.

60 degrees to me is shorts and t-shirt weather... I don't even wear a jacket while ski teaching until it gets below 10 degrees... unless its snowing. Otherwise, I'm in a vest!

I'm only in Houston because I had been employed here for awhile and my household goods are here. But this place is certainly not 'home'!

But you are right... the locals here are all bundled up whenever it gets below 60... It's kind of funny...

Dawn at DIA the morning after the snow.

1982. We were there, too. That was quite a storm. Christmas Eve my wife announced that we were out of milk and that I needed to go to King Supers to get some. So I went out, shoveled the driveway, put chains on the front end of the Buick Skylark (while still parked in the garage) and made the attempt. Going down the street the speedometer said 15, I doubt I was actually moving at more than 5 and snow was flying over the hood. I decided that destroying a car for a gallon of milk wasn't really a good idea, so I turned around and went back up the track I had just plowed and put the car back in the garage. The next morning you couldn't tell I'd been out there and we were snowed in for 4 days.

I like western Washington. You don't have to shovel rain. :D

Now that's funny right there.. I don't care who you are.:rofl::rofl::yesnod::yesnod::nonod:

I tend to wonder what I think I'm doing when it's sort of bad out then go past a zamboni that is upside down in the ditch. Like this morning going down a hill. Bad stuff.

I was in Evergreen one late afternoon when it rained, sleeted, hailed and then snowed. Had to put the top up on my Jeep.

Oh yeah, there was lightning when it was snowing. :D

That's just the Lord's way of telling you that you should be setting in the Little Bear rather than riding around in your jeep.:D

My all time favorite was in the backcountry in August on the CD trail:
Totally severe clear to the moon. I recall thinking "Hey, there's a teeny little cloud forming all of a sudden." Before I could get off the ridge, it was lightning and had something approximating the Atlantic ocean being poured out of a bucket on my head. A tree exploded nearby from a lightning strike. A few hours later it looked like a hurricane had hit the place and I got to watch a beautiful sunset with a few scattered clouds.
I guess it was mother natures way to tell me to please detour off the trail I was on to go see that nice pleasant little lake and camp there for the evening that I would have missed otherwise.

Oh yea, it snowed that night.

Whacko, I tell ya.
