If you expand the photo you will see wide Hs and square brackets at both thresholds. There is another square bracket just on the 5 side of the intersection with 14/32. The two wide Hs on the 23 end are 400 feet apart. The first square bracket and the one near the intersection are 3000 feet apart.

Some sort of training marks?

Doesn't seem to be anything standard. I looked in the AIM and didn't see them. Airport manager might know.
 
Interesting, not a marking I am familiar with either. They seem to have been added between 2010 and 2013.

I see this note under Operational Restrictions on Airnav MIL MARKINGS CMSND, which I'm assuming means "Military Markings Commissioned"
 
I called the airport manager’s office at Columbus and asked. The Kentucky ANG asked that those markings be placed there. They are some sort of aiming points the C-130s use when they practice there.
 
I like the markings at Navy bases (this one is at Norfolk, VA).

Gives you a good idea of the size of a carrier.

If I remember correctly, our touchdown zone was 300 to 500 feet from the end of the runway. There would be someone off to the side to score the landings. Back when we had C-130s stationed in Milwaukee, they would practice on a taxiway at Central Wisconsin Airport.
