Our chief CFI flew this into Austin before later flying a client up to Fort Worth yesterday morning. He made it in a little after 0700 with RVR 1800. A half hour later, we were back down to 1/8 mile and VV001.

As he turns off at Kilo, you can see the two bright white lights over the top of Atlantic FBO. Our hangar is just left of that. The yellowish lights are on each end of the hangars. When I walked out of the FBO at 0900, I couldn't see more than two hangars down.

It lifted back up just enough later for him to depart for Meacham and return later that day. Much of the 121 traffic diverted.

Off and on through the day, traffic lulled due to conditions waivering up and down. The 17L Cat III was most likely the approach of the day.

It never got very high througout the day:

I spent the day at Lakeway. Couldn't see across the runway.

I love stratus IMC.. It's like diving a submarine going down into the layer. Entirely too cool. Markers were a nice help too!

Thanks, I'll give you a heads-up next time. We were keeping grandkids while the older one and his mom were doing college prep stuff. As it turned out, I needed to be at Lakeway to work on the acquisition of a CJ1 for a client on the west coast. This market it amazing. Jet prices are heading south like never before, down ~30% since August. Heck of a good market if you don't need financing.

Whatcha doing there?

Come over to AUS and I'll steal ya a cup of coffee from Atlantic. :)

Bah, that's nothing! I could see the cowl the entire time! :D

I love shooting approaches in the muck like that. It's just a bit tough to get the right conditions often enough for my liking. But, on mucky days - Where's the crappiest weather? Let's go!

This was truly to minimums on the ILS. Many carriers diverted. "Our side" was much busier than usual because only 17L has a Cat III. A cemetery on the right side cuts into space available so it only has a SSALF. The left side has a full ALSF-2 for a Cat III.

The lowest I've shot was down to 800 feet but it might as well been to 200 as the descent was through a layer about 3,000 feet. The funny thing was, just before I intercepted the localizer the ceiling was another three or four thousand up.
