Happy Groundhog day! Since I grew up in and went to college in Western PA, this is the greatest holiday of the year despite the fact that the annual all night celebrations in college took years off my life. But apparently I have been missing something, in 2009, Feb 2nd became National Tater Tot Day. This day was great and it just went Next Level!

While living in Europe I had to explain this day to people. The more I explained it, the dumber it sounded.

If the shop calls and tells me to come get my plane tomorrow, then the day CAN get better.

I had a friend in college that would insist on dragging our butts to punxsatawney every year no matter how late we had been partying the night before. Standing out in the freezing rain or snow in the middle of the night to watch an idiot pull a ground hog out of a cage was one of the more pointless things I've ever done in my life. Usually got stuck in the snow or mud at least once trying to get back out of the field. What a waste of good sack time. Ground hogs day can suck it. And I'm on keto, so tater day can suck it as well.

Some the best parties I was ever at were those all nighters. I went to IUP, 30 to 45 minutes away from Punxsutawney. Needless to say, we had to make our own fun in that part of the state. Given that we were in the middle of nowhere, rules and authority types were few and far between. And I don't think i have ever actually seen the groundhog, that i can remember.

Didn't even realize today was groundhog day. I guess that explains why my plane is back in the shop

Ok, this day didn't get better. No airplane tomorrow.

You were fighting a losing battle. It IS dumb. In a not-quite non sequitur, one of my former PhD students actually grew up in Punxsutawney. He would just roll his eyes if anyone asked about Phil.
