Cleared for Takeoff
How many airports get rid of derelict aircraft or just let them sit around.
I was surprised to find this just sitting at Valkaria Airport, near Melbourne, FL:
OK, Rolla National Airport. What is the difference between Rolla Airport, Rolla National Airport, and Rolla International Airport (assuming that there were three airports in Rolla)?I post this every time something like this comes up.... and it amazes me they're still there. These planes were there 27 years ago (!!) when I was at UMR, and apparently they're still there:

Aluminum re-cyclers consider aircraft "dirty" aluminum.. they have too much other metal in the mix. nuts bolts etc. cleaning it removes the profit.I would think that metal scrappers would happily take that much aluminum.
Or the owner/pilot died and the heirs, if any, had no knowledge of the plane or any idea what to do with it.man, that's sad. Someone parked it one day, and probably didn't imagine that'd be the last time it ever flew.
