So who's getting theirs the day of?

(We're actually getting 3 copies - one deluxe edition which will stay on the shelf, one for reading, and one on CD unabridged for driving.

I'm such a sucker.)

On preorder - pick it up at 12:01am at the local store. :)

You're missing out on a very enjoyable storyline. Ok the 2nd book kinda stinks, but from 3 on, they really are complex and involving stories. :)

you know, I've not read one nor seen the movies...
Book 1: ***
Book 2: ***
Book 3: ****
Book 4: **
Book 5: **

The movies are OK, but are somewhat unintelligible if you haven't read the books. They are interesting tales for the most part. The first book is obviously the work of a part-time, first-time novelist, but the unique story makes up for it. Her writing style developed nicely and, IMO, peaked in book 3. Books 4 and 5 show her with "Stephen King disease" -- in which the author is clearly in love with the prose instead of the tale. You can skip the first 252 pages of book 5 and not miss anything.

I'll buy book 6 and read it, but I think the bloom may be off the rose, for me at least.

I'm a sleaze. I get the unabridged Audio CD, load it on the iPod then resell it on ebay.

I loved the 5th, but very dark.

Hmm, I'd say:
1: ***
2: **
3: ****
4: ***
5: ****

As far as the movies go, I was extremely disappointed by #3. Shoddy job, if you ask me. More about splash and effect than adequately telling the story. And yes, book #5 was very dark, but it also had its very light moments. (Like Fred and George's swamp)

Those of us who make our living selling intellectual property thank you for this approach.

Thats an interesting idea... is it legal? I mean - you bought the CD - you made a legal reproduction of it to your own equipment for your own enjoyment...

... but then after you resell the CD, is it legal to listen to the iPod?

It's piracy.

 Absolutely not.

well, I'm going to New Zealand, so at least I can where they filmed some of it.

My Mom is a complete HP aficionado. I even bought her some books on HP in London, I don't recall what they were called, they were something "official" but not the actual book - short stories? I can't remember.

Are you sure you're thinking of the right movie?

Anyway...

11 days...

Amazon sent me an e-mail saying that it WILL be delivered on the 16th. Since that is my birthday, it's an extra bonus for me.

One of our in town bookstores has a reservation thing going and if you reserve in advance and pick it up the first day, you can get 40% off. Too bad I'll be in MN that day. Oh well.

and I thought I was the only one.

That's ok. I thought I was the only one who had seen/read the movie/story.
:0)

Stumbled onto the broomstick flying scenes from the movies while channel surfing and thought they were quite good. That's about all I watched.
