Coming home from the Springs yesterday I noticed the #1 cylinder was running considerably cooler than the other 3 (Lycoming O360 A4A). Here's the reason to use the engine monitor. I didn't have a thumb drive, so I decided head to the hangar today and download the records off the JPI 730. Gotta love the 730. Installed it with the engine overhaul back in 2011 but....the EZTrends software doesn't work on anything other than Windows XP! Haven't booted up the old HP tower (XP) in years. Bought a used Dell laptop running Win10 (or 11, didn't check) over the summer for this, Garmin G1000 sim and MS Access - those are the only apps that I can't run under VM. Time to download EZTrends onto the Dell. It installs but doesn't do a *((^&%* thing. Anyone able to run it on 10 or 11?

Another rant - Dell decided to automatically update the BIOS when I booted the system today (haven't had it online in months). What gives Dell the right to do this without 1) posting a message it was going to happen and 2) letting me decide when (and if) I want this to happen!

Guess I'll see if the tower even still boots up. My friends wonder why I never get rid of hardware. Duh.

These are many reasons I prefer the mac - the most important? I have complete control of the mac.

I downloaded the software on my 6 month old Dell laptop. No issues with running.

On the other hand, I went to start it up the other day and nothing. Not on battery or wall power. Read that there was a glitch in the power sensing and you had to remove the battery and some button battery. I opened it up and removed the battery but couldn’t find anything else. Held the ON button for about 30 seconds to clear out any capacitors. Battery back in and it works again. Unbelievable on a new machine.

Just upload it to a free Savvy account. I have a 930 and have done that since I've owned the plane. Get a few promotional emails, but other than that, no real downside. (I have a Mac)

I run EZ trends on a win 10 VBox vm with a Linux host. No problems there. Garmin firmware updater though....

"free Savvy account."

whazzat?

Go here - Savvy sign up Once you get an account, you can upload from your thumb drive to Savvy. You can then see a pretty flexible graphic representation of your data. Here's a screen shot showing CHT and Fuel Flow. I await the posts of how I'm running my engine wrong :)

I've started using SAVY now because I could not find an alternative.

Here is a snap shot of me getting carb ice had having it cleared. I have a mac so I have no alternative but I like Savy's charts. I look forward to be able to make reports noticing trends

Ah HA! I still have an older Mac running XP under parallels! Will try that tomorrow.

You don't need to run XP to use Savvy. It's platform agnostic. The chart I posted is on my MBP M2 running Sequoia 15.2

But to use the JPI software, I need my old Mac.

I’ve used Savvy for years to read the data from my EI CGR 30P. Works great. And it’s a fair trade off. You get to see your data for free and they get to populate their database.
