Future pilot Kimberly (age 9) came along with us to Jones Beach Saturday to watch the airshow. Here are some videos she shot and "editied."

The video is by no means all-inclusive of the show; it's just the performances that she decided she wanted to tape, for whatever her reasons may have been.

Time is a little under half an hour. Download size is a bit under 200 MB.

Apparently, Kimberly also took some still pictures at the airshow. I found them on my camera this morning when I transferred some work-related pictures I took for a Web site I'm building.

Most of her still pictures were just clouds and/or sand, but a few of them were pretty good. I cropped them where necessary, resized them to 1600 x 1200, and uploaded them to a gallery on a community I'm playing with on one of my sites.

Feel free to use them if you want. You can get the 1600 x 1200 pics by clicking the "download" links in the gallery.

EDIT: Note that the thumbnails in the gallery view are square and cut off the left and right sides of the pics. To see them in proper aspect ratio you have to click the thumbnails. Another bug to squish, I guess; but at least the software is open-source.

Haven't checked the vid yet, but those photos are nice! She has a good eye!! Too bad I couldn't make it this year- I've never seen the Snowbirds fly.

Thanks.

The Snowbirds are great. Very elegant and precise. They do about 50 different formations during the show, ranging from drawing pictures in the sky (Kimberly especially liked the heart they drew) to combat maneuvers.

Kimberly does indeed have a good eye. She's very observant. When she flies, she notices everything. Every aircraft, every cloud, every bird, everything. She's even starting to recognize air traffic patterns when we drive past familiar airports ("Uncle Richard, look, he's turning base!")

It was a great day at the airshow. Unfortunately, the winds were too high for the Golden Knights opening, which is my favorite part of the show; but it was still a great show. Well worth the admission, the hot dogs, and the sunburn.

Here's a picture of the photographer / videographer after the show:
