I have a serious case of lust. Unfortunately the War Dept was standing over my shoulder when I was reading this. She said that we have many other things to do with 40k than buy an airplane.

I want a second opinion.

Tell the war department that it is a good observation aircraft that can be used to scout out new homes, schools for the kids, open parking spaces at the mall, etc. That should help.

You and I have similar problems...

The other things you can do with $40,000 are probably not smart. You can spend $40,000 on the Cub, use it for years and get $40,000 or more back. What else can you do that with? Maybe real estate or a classic car but not much else. I think of my airplanes as a fun savings account.

It's true, you will most likely get that money back. Also, annuals are typically very inexpensive. The planes are simple, no avionics to take care of. Burns less than 5gph.

Tires are expensive but you only need a set every couple years. Once the brakes wear out, replace them with a $800 grove disc kit.

Tires? I replaced mine based on them just being old as dirt, shouldn't be going through tires that fast, shy of using your plane as a trainer IMO

I think I am married to her sister or Mother depending on age, mine thinks the one I have is a waste, I used to have three airplanes, now I have a new kitchen, a new deck and she has a new car, I have one airplane left that was less than her car, now I just lust after the ones I really want on all the airplane porn sites.

I have a great wife.... I buy anything I want and never ask. We have separate bank accounts and that works excellent! She has her money and I have mine. We have been married 15 years and never once argued about money.

What year was it recovered and with what ? What type paint? Always hangared since then? Any trophys? Who rebuilt it? Always important questions when dealing with tube and fabric. It costs big money to recover a cub or any other small fabric aircraft and do it correctly. They require a very careful inspection by an expert.

That is above average cost for a Cub. Might be worth it but hard to say without seeing it. I see Cubs listed for $50k and more...don't know they sell for that. An average Cub is probably around $35k with midtime engine and dacron fabric in the last 10-15 years longer if always hangared.
