It is so cold....

It was so cold here in Florida last week that I had to put on long pants and shoes. I even thought about a long sleeve shirt, but I don't own any.

It's so cold in Austin that my truck is covered in ice, I slipped on the sidewalk, my hands are frozen, and the cold wind took my breath away... and I heard an airplane fly over (to make it aviation related.)

We got a weather advisory for midnight tonight until noon tomorrow: windchills -10 to -20. Good times.
 
The worst I've seen was Edmonton in Feb/Mar. OMG, why would anyone voluntarily live there. It was -40 on a regular basis and down to -80 with the wind chill. By May, you could just see that everyone was done and ready for a week of summer.

We lived in Alberta for 20 years. In the first seven years, we saw snow in every month at one time or other. We had moved there in August, leaving 100°F weather in our hometown, and two days later it snowed in the new place. A week later it snowed again. All the crops were ruined. Seven years later July was the only month we hadn't seen snow in some year or other, and finally I drove to work in a snowstorm. In July. We went back to town to the restaurant for coffee and pie, since we couldn't fly with the students in half-mile visibility. At around noon the snow stopped, the sun came out, summer returned and we went back to work.

One gets used to it. Only the strong survive; the wimps go to Florida or Arizona for the winter:)

My standard comeback to people in Arizona when they'd say that was, "So's an oven, or nuclear weapon!"

And, Dan - it was either July or August where we didn't see snow at least once in 4 years in the Denver area. So Alberta wasn't that much different (other than temperatures).
 
Yesterday morning. -39C. -55C windchill. These temps make the dog and cat very thankful that they live with us!
 
Not original, but "It's so cold, it'll freeze the balls off a brass monkey!"
 
So cold that our words froze in mid air and we had to take them inside and thaw them by the fire to hear what was said.
 
If you're cold, it just means you ain't workin' hard enough. Slackers. Bring it on.... I love bitter cold.

Said in jest...except the part about loving bitter cold....and not working hard enough....and being slackers....

It's 18° and has started snowing. I'm staying home for the next five days, my fellow Texans are pretty clueless when the roads get slick.

What's almost comical is the number of 4WD trucks and SUVs that will be spinning off of the freeways in the morning.

We're at 5F, wind chill -12. Supposed to get wind chills down to -28 or so. Been snowing at a decent clip for a few hours. They're only predicting about 7-8" of snow, but that's pretty good historically for Tulsa. As long as the heaters stay working I say let it snow. I doubt we go anywhere, but the 4x4 is ready to go. I don't get overconfident with 4x4 though, since it only helps you get going, it doesn't help you stop, lol.

Yeah, I’ve gotta fly around in this stuff today and I’m most worried about the ride from the hotel to DFW! :)

The Weather Channel app says it's -0F.

Our high is predicted to be 1F. Yay us. And it's snowing again.
 
Sunny and -15F here, windchill -36F. High of -10F. It's supposed to be 26F by next Saturday, though!
 
It was -37°C here this morning. That's around -35°F. The air is so dry there's not a cloud in sight anywhere. Brilliant sunshine, as usual for southern Saskatchewan. Very little wind, and it's a good thing. Wouldn't take much breeze to drive the wind chill to -50C (-58°F). Altimeter setting 30.55.

edit: we have reached our daytime high of 1F. Hourly forecast has us back to -0 by 4pm.

I got behind some people on the freeway this morning doing 40-50 mph. Apparently dry pavement is considered dangerous here. :rolleyes:
 
It was so cold the flame on the candle froze and I couldn't see to blow it out.
 
The snow that fell here was dry ,like sugar crystals. No wind for the past few days of - temps. Was helping my Son in law pick hay bales . Loose snow about 6'' or more in the alfalfa fields. To day the wind came up out of the SE ,-16 a bit of ground blizzarding early. Visibility was at times quite limited . Visibility now back to about 1 mile but snow still drifting . Wind chill @ -44 .
My neighbor always said it was hell to be a cow in North Montana. :)

Back In Feb. of 1970 We saw over 100 degrees of temperature change in less then 4 hours
NW Chinook Zone . From -20 to +40 in 2 hours. Then back to - temps .
Hard Wind From SE to Hard Chinook from SW warming up and back to SE and - temps.

I am glad you guys are getting the cold temps. Here in my part of the wold the temperature has been between 30 and 32 most of the day. The small amounts of snow falling melts as soon as it hits the ground and turns into mud. Sure would be nice if the ground froze up so the dog will quit tracking mud in the house.
 
It’s so cold in North Dakota that the wind quit blowing.

Not a joke. It’s been below 0F continuously for over a week, occasionally below -30F, but mostly calm. And yes, it’s a dry cold.

Don’t worry about us, though. The forecast shows it will warm up by 80 degrees by next weekend. If anyone needs me, I’ll be sleeping in the refrigerator. It’s already 70 degrees warmer in there than outside at night.

Having driven from upstate New Yawk to Texas and Fairbanks to anywhere else, I involuntarily became a member of the 100- and 200 clubs.

Joining the 300 club without climbing to 20,000 feet seems like an achievement.
 
my 4800’msl airport normally has DA of 6-8000’, tonight it’s 2300’
