Just ordered my new iPad mini and yoke mount so I can start using Foreflight when flying.

I'm looking forward to having my head completely in the cockpit on VFR days in the busy SoCal airspace! I'll never have to look outside again! :wink2:

(Just kidding, of course)

I've had an iPad mini for a few months, but just got a yoke mount which I will try out when I take my daughter to breakfast at MSN's Jet Room on Saturday.

I tried the yoke mount, found myself always trying to fly the plane straight and level when looking at the ipad. Now I have a suction mount on the windshield to my left.

Ask Pat at the Jet Room for the Airport Courtesy Car App discount......

The mini on a yoke mount works well, I've used it that way quite a bit. I used the spring loaded RAM x-grip or whatever it's called.

I'm switching to a fullsize ipad air and a knee mount for it. I never had an issue with the smaller size of the Mini's screen till I had a chance to use a friend's fullsize ipad with FF.

Stan, I flew by KUES the other day, 10/28 was pretty torn up. What's the deal? I heard they were going to keep part of 18/36 open? When will 28 be done? Will construction last into August as I thought I heard?

I seem to recall some small hill action on 10/28. Will they make it even longer?

The concrete on 10/28 was starting to crumble, so it's being totally reconstructed. It will remain closed until August 15, which (so far) they feel they will meet.

18/36 will remain open throughout that period, except that for a 3 week period in June, it will be reduced to 1,700 feet. During that time, the tower will also be closed for renovations, making it a Class E airport during that time.

Most business jet tenants have relocated to Milwaukee or Timmerman during this period. They're kind of ****ed so I've heard. Our CAF Wing will relocate our PT-26 and SNJ to Timmerman during that 3 week period. We also cancelled Wings over Waukesha, which takes place the last week in August. It was just too close to the anticipated completion date to take the risk.

There was no hill on 10/28, but there's a slight valley on 18/36 which won't change. I think they wanted to lengthen 10/28, but that would have required relocation of the road on the west side of the airport, which won't be happening.

I have been using an iPad mini 3 with Foreflight and Stratus 2 in my 180C for awhile now and it has worked well. I modified a Ram iPad mount (trimmed all the excess plastic around the edge so that it only holds it on the corners.. it actually works very well with the "smart case"

I just ordered the iPad Air 2.. (Maybe I am getting old but I sure like the bigger screen)

I put a friends iPad Air 2 up to the Yoke and it seems to still fit ok mounted horizontally. I bought the same style Ram Mount again, and will trim this one again the same way.

Wow! Less than 24hrs after placing order Marv Golden delivered the yoke mount. Best service I've ever had! And $5 less and lower shipping than Sportys!

Why do we order from sportys anymore?

I just got an used IPad Mini 2 off of ebay.

I've already started instrument training and have found juggling low-enroute charts in a cockpit is just stupid if you don't have to. Especially when you don't have an autopilot to hold your numbers while you shuffle around.

I also called up my DPE and he said as of last year the FAA is telling them not to even "break" them anymore. He will just make you turn off the GPS function.

With the air 2, did you notice any improvement in reducing glare ?

I chose the Mini because I can use it with my polarized sunglasses. Ipads (about 2 years ago) would not be viewable with polarized lenses at all angles.

The mini is great and I use a ram mount on the left side. Yolk mounts are bad for me due to my leg length and height.

I fly a 182 and a BE35.

And here is my handsome steed with my beautiful daughter:

I've been really impressed with Marb Goldens prices and service. What's even better is they are local so I can avoid shipping.

Would you clarify the DPE's position? I thought that DPE's were OK with ipads for situational awareness.
