Hi. My name Joe and I have become a aviationholic.. Just wanted to introduce myself. I started (and actually my first time in a airplane at all)my flight training in August 2015 and successfully passed my PPL Checkride in April. I have always wanted to learn to fly but never thought I would actually do it at 41 yrs old. I have joined a flying club that is at a non towered airport about an hour away, I trained at a towered airport KLNS. I did my training in a 2006 c172 g1000. The club I joined at W42 has a '71 c172 and a '77 c152 both with garmin 430. Not bad but all steam which is fine just different scan. It didn't take me long to get used to. I have been finding myself looking at the RV 10 to build while I build some hours in the club. The build does not scare me at all, I have been into cars and restoring them for a long time and am very mechanically inclined. I'm just about ready to put my Ferrari 308 on the market to help finance my build. I love the Ferrari but I am finding I like flying more the driving anymore. Call me crazy. I will be starting my instrument probably within the year, need to build some XC time first. I have already contacted the east coast rep for vans and with be visiting him to check out the 10 in a couple weeks. Anyway ,hello and anyone in my area wants to get together and talk planes let me know.

Joe

Hey, another local! Welcome to PoA.

Its a good sickness to have. Welcome to POA!

Welcome, Joe! The Van's kits are so well engineered and supported. With your background, the RV-10 build shouldn't present any huge hurdles. If you can swing it, go the Quick Build route....ought to save a couple years of build time. Good luck!

Hey Joe. If you're ever down by Manassas, stop by KHEF and say hi. My RV10 is down for an engine teardown at the moment so sadly I can't offer you a ride, but if you want to take a gander up close you're more than welcome.

Thanks for the welcome guys. And tsts4 I'll take you up on that if I'm ever down that way and KHEF is where the DPE had me plan to on my Checkride. I think later today I will get the Ferrari out and get some good pics for the add. I may try evil bay first.

But you can pretend your Crocket and Tubbs. Wait, that was a Testarossa. Close enough.

Or that Ferrari Daytona replica on a C4 Corvette chassis that they drove for a while. Not that I watched Miami Vice...er, a friend told me about it... :D:D

You made the right choice. I ran a high performance driving school, and after a while, no interest in track driving even when it cost me nothing. Never been bored flying though.

That's where I'm at. I've been into cars and racing for along time. Just rather fly now.

RV-10 is a great plane. If you go that route good luck on your build!

Well I bought a emmpenage kit from a guy in VA. He built the horizontal stab and stopped. He bought the kit in 08. I bought all the tools with it as well. I've started on the horizontal stab

I love my tungsten bars. Looks like you are set up well. The best advice I can give you is do something on the project every day. I don't care if its only a half hour work on it every day to keep up the momentum. I have built a RV-7 and done major portions on a couple of others and I'm finishing up my second Supercub with one waiting to get started when this one is finished. Enjoy the build. Don

Yea, there are about 2 million horizontal stabilizers out there looking for the rest of the aircraft.

Dunno if you are so inclined, but someday, somewhere, a person is going to document the whole build of a homebuilt on youtube - and I would enjoy watching - you could be the next Kieth Rucker or SV Seeker... (Even Chris at Clickspring gets hundreds of thousands of views as he builds a clock - but he does amazing work).
