Hello POA. I've been a lurker for quite some time now and I finally decided to join the group! Just thought my first post should be an intro of sorts.

I'm a CFI currently based out of KSNA. Half of my flying experience is in CA and half in Utah, where I trained out of KSLC. I have about 800TT and have ambitions to go either 135 or 121, but I'm not in a huge hurry for either of those yet. As of now, I am starting aerobatic training and look forward to flying upside down!

I'm looking forward to discussing all things aviation here. Clear skies to everyone!

Sweet, I also trained out of KSLC, and now fly out of KBTF. Finished my PPL last August. And I too want to do acro. I tell my wife that I want to loop an airplane and she just rolls her eyes and says "no, don't do that!"

Ah yes, Bountiful Scarepark. I've flown in and out of there a few times. I almost worked as an instructor out there too, but there was more work here in CA. Do you rent planes from Bountiful Flight?

No, AMI. They have several 172s and a 182. Why Scarepark? Just curious.

It's just a nickname some guys had for it during our training years. We were just used to flying at SLC and TVY, so BTF was super short and narrow in comparison. Not to mention the need to back taxi if you want to use 34. In reality it's not bad at all, but I still wouldn't send a student solo there until we've gone dual.

BTF used to be my autogas stop going from CA to OSH. When they stopped mogas then I used Morgan County. Don't know if EITHER of them still have mogas.

Ahhhh okay. I remember the first time I landed there with my cfi, it was a bit gut-clinching (compared to OGD/TVY etc).

There are a few things that bug me about it though, such as RW 16 departures. No good options in an engine out scenario. Plus the traffic pattern sends you close to the I15 corridor.

You doing your aerobatic training at Sunrise or 5G? I learned to fly at SNA in 1976. Flew a Great Lakes, Stearman, Decathalons and a Pitts at Lenair that is now Sunrise. Do you remember the Nanchang derelict at Bountiful? A friend and I bought it and it and I'm restoring it here in Twin Falls. Don

Sunrise. It's where I currently teach as well. I'm gonna start out in a Decathlon, and then fly the Pitts S2B and Extra 300 when I have more experience. I don't remember that at BTF, but that must be a hell of a restoration job!

Yeah, two more reasons I wouldn't send a student there solo. Too many people and refineries around for engine out ops, and the proximity to class B. It's really easy to bust the B if you make one wrong move.

Tell Michael Don from Idaho said Hi. I built the Decathalon model that hangs in the front room there. Don

Welcome aboard, pilot friend!

Longer ago than I care to admit, I lived in Orange County, and for most of that time, my office was in Tustin, directly in line with what was then runway 19 right. I used to love listening to my Sony air band radio from sporty's. Then I would go home to my house in Fullerton, which was not very far from the Fullerton Airport, and I listened to the radio there as well.

I always swore I would learn to fly while I was there, but instead went to law school, and secured my ticket much later, back home in Texas. I look forward, someday, to getting back to California, and flying around all the places I promised I would fly myself, someday.

Welcome to POA... I rented an airplane(and a CFI) at Sunrise back in February-ish, and flew around LA and out to Catalina Island. Also took a ride with the guy in post #19 down to San Diego and back. Really nice area and the scenery is great!

The guys at Sunrise are all pretty cool too, the ones I met anyways. My hotel started on fire and they let me spend a good portion of the day there organizing my things(I hastily threw EVERYTHING in the rental car and got out of there while the building was on fire haha).
