I forgot to update mine. Flew the plane for 8 hours last weekend and it worked great. I need to send the old alternator out and see if we can figure out what happened.
Yep. I think the stud sheared off inside. I bought an overhauled one ($1400 in case anyone wants to experience the Hartzell sell out joy with me) so I could depart ASAP. Or I could wait a week for mine to be overhauled
See my pictures on post 36. Most likely the ring terminal connector between the stud and the brush housing broke. If they had an old alternator laying around, they could have pulled those pieces out and swapped them into your alternator. They also might have been able to order them, though that would be a snipe hunt. If the goal is getting you back in the air quickly, a new alternator was probably the most reliable approach.
