Interesting panel in a sad cheetah

My son and I were looking at our plane and discovered this sad little Cheetah in the back of the hangar. I poked around and noticed the panel is quite unique. I would like to learn a bit more about it. It appears that all of the panel is behind some sort of glass. Very interesting look. Also I am not sure what type of radios those are.

Very unfortunate that this plane is open and rotting like this. I would love to have my panel done this way. I think anyway... Might cause glare issues...

 
I dunno but there's probably spiders crawling on your arm right now.

Did you find any damage, or any signs of repair work..??

Did you check in back for some old Sky Mall magazines..??

Then what do we do with your plane? You better will it to one of us who won't let it sit and rot before we shoot you to prevent you from letting it sit and rot. ;)
 
Any ideas about what that "glass" panel overlay is?
Spculation on the avionics? It appears to have a label ICS on the radios. Best I can tell that is a company that does avionics and not an actual model.

The plastic overlay? I can't really make it out but I guess it's there. Maybe so no one touches the instruments or leave fingerprints on the panel. :dunno: :)

I find it strange that this plane was written off as damaged beyond repair yet looks fairly undamaged......
 
Right there with ya. It also appears to have changed owners since then
 
How did you miss this gem in your search for an airplane? Could have picked it up cheap. :D
 
Rodney bought it back in 2001 in Indiana and in 2012 was the last action taken on it. The N number has been deregistered. The 1982 incident said the pilot vaulted it off the runway and didn't have enough airspeed to maintain a climb and he mushed it into the trees. But the aircraft was destroyed...seems like it would be more than mushed into the trees if destroyed...and here it sits hmm. Does seem strange and it has apparently flown since that accident. odd for sure.

Depends on your point of view. They're a bit fatter than those found on road bikes, a bit thinner than those found on mountain bikes, but significantly thinner than those on this bike:

The owner prior to me (my Tiger) upgraded the panel spending right at the amount he sold it for ... (G530, King HSI, Stormscope, G330 transponder, new metal panel, instrument lighting with both Red and Green brow lighting, red rudder cap, split cowl, etc).

Most pilots are just jealous, as we attract more of the opposite sex looking cool with our arm hanging out as we taxi canopy open:p
