I've been getting some quotes for insurance and it's like rolling dice with what comes back. I got a quote from the same underwriter within a 2 week period for two different planes. The second quote was $400 higher for the same model airplane, but it's 2 years older, but it was also for $15,000 less coverage. It also required 10 hours of training instead of the previous quote which required 3. ???

I’m a bit underinsured right now, I’ll look into it at my next renewal. I’ve been flying like Grampa dives lately, so few worries now.

Airplane insurance cost and requirements vary a lot more in the aviation world than in automotive. Luckily for me only 1 or 2 companies will insure my plane haha.

Why is it people will insure their car but not their airplane. Most states require liability insurance on a car, aircraft not sure any due.

Most of the quotes I have received were within $50-$70 of each other. I went with aircraft and marine underwritten through global.
I found it funny that any CFI I use has to have 5 hours in my type and anyone else I might loan my plane to has to have 25 hours in type.

I also have a policy through Aircraft and Marine and underwritten by the “too big to fail” USAIG. Any CFI I use has to have 10 hours of Grumman Tiger time and 350 hours overall. Fournately after rejecting a few well qualified ferry pilots who had no Grumman Tiger time, I was able to find one that had over 4,000 hours and just 10 in a Tiger when I bought the plane.I have no idea where some of these underwriting requirements come from other than pencil-necked risk managers and their syncophant attorneys. Now I need a flight review, and you guessed it I can't find a CFI with Tiger time. So maybe I will have to rent a 172 for my FR.
