The Scanner is the core technology of your phone. It can detect Portals and interact with Exotic Matter (XM) as well as XM constructs, such as Resonators and XMPs.

Why would I need to interface with any of that? For what reason?
 
Is a time-sucking game! My brothers introduced me to it last fall. I've had a lot of fun with it but you waste a lot of gas and time playing.

That was a joke. All I did was Google it and paste what I found, I had no idea but figured it was some b*llsh*t game.

Nah, geocaching is at least a real-life activity, as much as golf or baseball or sailing or anything we do for fun that is based in reality. This is just more fantasy BS on a computer screen with only a tangential relationship to reality (kinda like SVT :D).

LOL yes. Funny thing is, if you get stopped/questioned by a cop when playing Ingress, all you have to do to explain it is say 'it's like virtual geocaching' and they go off on how they hate people digging around in bushes looking for geocaches. They are usually happy that whatever you are looking for is on your phone and not on the ground.
 
It's yet another way for Google to keep tabs on your whereabouts.
