Information on my Grandfather

So - my grandfather was a pilot. His name is Joseph Francis Devan, but I can't find any information; The FAA's website only has his name and nothing else.

I'd like to know when he started flying, when he got his certificate, etc.

Anyone have an idea how I can find out this information?

edit: If it helps, he was an EAA member from 1975 to present (expires in 03/2010).

Try to get his logbooks -- if he still had them -- they would be the best source.

Yeah, I have a request to my Aunt (who is the executor) to get his Certificate and any logbooks she may find, but I don't think they'll show up
