Last year when I was planning on taking a girl flying to go eat, everyone here came up with some great ideas that I never would have thought of. Well I'm back again for another shot.

Except this time the city is Oklahoma City and the "mark" :) is also a private pilot. I was originally thinking about flying up there and the flying her to Dallas since it's already established if she like to fly. She has never been to Texas and I thought it would be fun to go somewhere like Addison and pay too much for gas to use a nice car for a few hours. But funding has eliminated that option.

I will be driving up there so I'll have my truck. I did a google and found some glider rides. I was thinking do that mid-afternoon and then dinner and then maybe something else if it's still early enough. This is plan A for the moment, but the weather is not looking favorable this weekend.

So, y'all start working your magic and make this one as awesome as the last one and maybe y'all will get to meet her at Gastons. :)

Thanks guys

And I'm not talking about that kind of something else either for any of you with your mind in the gutter...:D

You caught me... I was thinking parking by an airport fence for some sunset plane-spotting.
I can't help it- it's a disease! :D

The glider ride is a great idea- an "activity" date should include something neither of you has done before. And gliders are just sexy; everybody knows that. :D

I gave you my best move last year. Mile High club for sure.

Let her show you where she learned to fly, does her thing now, etc. Go to dinner and chat, listen a lot and don't talk much. Let her set the tone of the visit. Don't try to do too much airplane stuff. Plenty of time for that later.

Nick:

Fo' real?

In a CHEROKEE?

Sure. Seats slide waaaaay back in a Cherokee. Plus there's a back seat...

And....ummm....well, lets say there's different variations on the MHC, if you know what I mean :)

Yep...this will cover ya if she flies better than you....

Thanks for the suggestion. She learned to fly in MO at her dad's ranch and doesn't fly down in OK. They own a plane so she does her aviating when she goes back home so we don't have to worry about that. I thought the glider thing would be fun because I don't think she has ever flown one and has already professed a love of all things aviation, almost talks about it more than I do.

I am really just trying to avoid the stereotypical dinner and a movie or something boring like that. So I'm all ears on anything fun and exciting. Gotta make the good impression quick :D

I can't lie, that might have been the best move in my short time of entertaining the opposite sex. But, not only is Otto INOP in this plane, he is not even in it. Someone borrow me your plane for an hour or two with at least a wing leveler in it .

I've already decided she does that just in case this goes anywhere. "Amazing landing honey, sure you can have the left seat for the ride back home too" :mad2:

I was hoping the glider place would have one with a big enough seat for two in it, but even if they did I don't think my big butt and anyone else are fitting in the back.

I think Hinton,OK has the closest gliders to OKC, maybe Goldsby. Hinton glider club does rides, but not enough room for 2 pax. Great view though, flying over Red Rock Canyon. And if you're driving, stop in Yukon on the way back and have dinner at Bad Brads off Rte 66. Ponca City does thier fly in breakfast Sat, but the weather is iffy for that one.

Be yourself. Also, the fact that she's a pilot is great, but she may or may not have interest in just doing flying-related stuff. So if you do something flying-related (or not), ask questions and learn more about her. I wouldn't push stuff like Gaston's immediately other than mentioning it casually should it come up. You know this stuff already. :)

Only thing I wonder about with a glider ride is that it's not time spent together, which to me somewhat defeats the purpose of a date. Kinda like going to movies - you sit there in silence for a few hours and don't actually get to know anything about her.

Not sure if it's feasible (Tristan might have some comments on this), but you could always fly over to Stillwater for a meal at Eskimo Joe's. Not sure if the airport has a courtesy car or something, but it's something different, and might be a good trip length if you've got a plane you can use.

Evening ballon ride? Champagne at the end, nice romantic dinner, good bottle of wine, watch the sunset. While still "flying" balloons are quite different. Does require a lot of cooperation with weather.

The prime time for balloon flying is in the morning. I don't think too many people go in the evening, the problem being that watching the sunset would cause you to land in the dark or semi-dark. Maybe someone with more balloon experience can chime in. I was part of a chase crew many years ago and this is what I remember. That said there's nothing wrong with a balloon ride and champagne in the morning!

Balloon rides in Oklahoma during the spring are cross-countries, whether or not you intended them to be such.

:cheerswine: No disagreement there!!

We do have an operator near us who does both (morning and evening), would seem to me to be weather dependent. You are correct however, we did land before dark, and all the equipment was packed and loaded by nightfall.

You are a wise man.

The balloon in my avatar was launched in the late afternoon at the farm. My friend, Bill, is the pilot. He often gives rides in the late afternoon/early evening and we've been his chase crew many times. The chances of having the perfect weather for that in the spring can be iffy, so it's good to have a Plan B. :yesnod:

A number of small airports in central OK have weekend fly-in's. If weather is good, it would be easy to drive over, watch the show, have lunch, hang out.

That is my concern with the glider too. One of us is on the ground while the other is up flying. But it's really the only not movie thing I can think of. Sadly I don't have a plane I can use :(.

Back to the if she's a better pilot issue, I remember she told me she got her private in a supercub. So I have no doubt she is better at the stick and rudder skills than I am.

If neither of you have an ego about it, I don't see the problem.

BTW I like Wayne's ideas, I'll have to take notes. He's got some smarts for a guy who forgot to put paint on his plane.

No ego about it, it was just brought up and I thought I'd address it. I should have added a :D to the end of it.

I like the fly in idea. Is there any way to find out which ones or do I just need to hop on the bike and start making rounds?

and wishes that was all he forgot.

That's a very handy web site Aunt Peggy :yesnod:

Thanks for posting it......

Back when drive-ins were more in vogue we use to go up and circle around over the late late late show.

Nothing like seeing a 30' tall...well...never mind....:arf:
