Why can I not figure this out?

200 hours ago the total in the PIC column of my logbook was 92.14% of the Airplane SEL logged. Currently the PIC is 100.01% of the Airplane SEL.

Yes I have AMEL PIC logged but how should that make a difference?

Day + Night = TT. ASEL + AMEL = TT. So it all checks out there...no mistakes.

Please explain to this simpleton how the spread has decreased.

It's just something I happen to notice today.

here's a couple of things to check.

Assuming the 200 hrs was all ASEL PIC you would expect the percentage to go down.

EG ASEL=1000 and PIC = 920 that's 92%
Then ASEL = 1200 and PIC = 1120 that's 93%

But ASEL-PIC should be the same.

If you've logged AMEL PIC, then your PIC time may very well be more than your ASEL time, as PIC doesn't distinguish between category/class.

Or you screwed up somewhere.

Clearly, you aren't asking me -but...

Sounds like your AMEL PIC = ASEL not PIC (dual instruction, I assume)
 
Total PIC = AMEL PIC + ASEL PIC. If you fly more AMEL PIC, PIC goes up but ASEL doesn't. Is that it?
 
Floating point numbers cannot faithfully mimic real numbers. For example, 0.1 cannot actually be represented. Depending upon your computer/calculator it may actually be 0.100000001490116119384765625 or a similar variant. Subtracting of nearly equal values can cause problems. Division can cause others.

Your next entry may correct the problem.

Yep, which is why in my logbook I used the 10* INT/10 function in a few spots.
