*ahem* Excuse me, chart supplement.

Couple of examples from my own experience:

Havasu, KHII - designated calm wind runway is 32. It's posted in the AF/D and on airport signage. Nevertheless, the pattern is a zoo (actually it's less well managed than your average zoo) with aviators taking off and landing both directions simultaneously whilst arguing over which is "the active." The only thing they agree on is that downwind is over the lake.

Eloy, E60: Land on 20, take off on 02, and stay the hell out of the jump area directly south and east. Transients and en routes don't seem to be aware of the restrictions, and they don't respond when the jump planes yell at them to GTFO. They fly right through while meat bombs are falling out the sky.

Back in my self-righteous student^Wlearner days, I would give offenders a might arse-chewing. It didn't accomplish anything and just made me angrier, so I gave up yelling at idiots driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

How do you (as in all y'all) deal with pilots who ignore or dispute published local information?

Just find a way to somehow fit into the flow or whatever reasonable facsimile of it there is, don’t hit anyone, land and get on with the rest of my day.

I would bet that most of those pilots don’t even look up the info in the AFD, even with having to just tap a tab on Foreflight they still don’t look at it.

There was a thread a couple months ago on this:
1. Announced you’re a jet (that gives you priority)
2. Then declare the pattern is full and unsafe, remind them again you’re a jet (you can’t do this enough).
3. Then just make a straight in approach, don’t forget to continue telling everyone how dangerous they are.

Give up on uncontrolled airports and only fly where you have the illusion that ATC is keeping everyone else away from you?

seriously, nobody should be arguing on the ctaf. Also, there is no “active” runway at an uncontrolled field. Traffic in the area, please advise.

We have a local field with a designated calm wind runway, which happens to be the runway used 300 days a year anyway due to local prevailing winds. It is in the CS, but also included in a NOTAM in their AWOS broadcast.

The CS says when winds are 10 kts or less, use 20/02 as described. But no weather on the field. I guess you use the nearest weather station, 10 mi away? Hopefully you can receive it in the ground there.

Don’t have a good answer for you. I think the AWOS broadcast helps. The CS for my home base clearly says no touch and goes, but there is a flight school based there that does T&G all day long.

Reminds me of a thread here years ago. Lady busted her private check ride when examiner gave her the diversion to a field, and she entered a 1,000’ TPA instead of 800’ as noted in the CS. I would have done same thing.

The language is a bit ambiguous. How much wind is calm? Less than 8 knots or light and variable? To me it would be less than 8, some one else only when reported light and variable.

Thats why you have you students note the airports along their XC route with TPA that’s not 1000 agl.
