...for one airplane purchase and one only, tax free transaction, and the plane could not be resold, then which airplane would you get, given your pilot experience, mission, and the ongoing costs of ownership for which you will have to pay out of pocket? Oh yeah, and any other planes you currently own or rent would be taken away. So dream plane mixed with reality...

I think I'd get a brand new Bo.

I think I'd get a brand new Bo.

An NB-36 fully fueled.

I'd go with the new Cessna 182 diesel.

Oooh - good call!

I think I'd go with a 185. Working airplanes seem to command a premium, and in reality I can't justify the initial cost for what would be a 'fun' plane. But in the OP's scenario - bring it on!

I'd go with a Beaver over a 185.

Top of the line Gulfstream. Then hire some poor schmuck to drive me wherever I want to go.

Think big or go home. :D

I'd go with a Beaver over a 185.

It'd definitely win the cool factor, but I'm not sure that I have the means to properly maintain it.

182 with the Peterson conversion. Mmmm..

Well, I don't have any training (yet) so I'd have to work my way up into whatever I pick.

If the ongoing expense was part of the "limitless $$$" you mentioned then I would have chosen the Eclipse 550.

But if I would have to cover that out of my own pocket, then I'd probably choose a pressurized Aerostar.

985 is probably the best aviation engine made, and it's not particularly expensive to work on. They were on par with the TSIO 520 in the Cessna 188.

Socata TBM 900 or Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet. Would need to get training and type rating but still doable and lots of fun! That or a new Mooney Acclaim S or Bonanza G36.

Conquest 441

One more vote for the Epic. Former hangar mate has one. Completely awesome plane.

The Deb that AOPA just gave to the wrong guy....

Actually, if I need to handle the care and feeding, I'll take a Deb with the IO-470-J or K for running MoGas...

Cirrus SR-22. Anything more than that I'm afraid might be too expensive for me to operate, maintain and insure.

I'm paying the ongoing bills like maintenance? Probably an RV-7 or 8.

Maintenance covered with the rest of the deal? Grumman F7F Tigercat.

A tricked out turbo-normalized A36 with TKS, a 650/750 combo and three Aspens.

I'd have to go with an AHRS , A/C and dual-alternator equipped post '84 TN or NA A36 as well. The Ovation, TTx and Lanc ES would also be affordable for me to operate but they don't have the family friendly ergonomics that would represent my 80% mission. Otherwise, if I were a one-man wolfpack I'd probably go for the non-mexican production TTx.
