I just upgraded the home computer to IE8. Now, whenever I open a 2nd instance of IE or when an IE page opens a second window, IE crashes. Do you have any ideas?

I got so fed up with the memory hogging of IE I finally switched full time to Chrome. I only have run across one page where I had to use IE. Others here swear by Firefox. I also use Opera from time to time.

I normally shrug-off the comments dis'ing MS, but this one I agree with.

No issues with it and Win 7. I've had 12 windows of IE open with multiple tabs in each one. I can't get it to bomb out.

I am not running 7, but that is good to know. I am sure I will eventually be running 7.

You know what the worst thing ever about IE7/IE8 is?

Open up ESPN.com

Browse around for a bit.

Leave it open and do some other stuff.....wait....wait.....wait

Oh, ok, now most of the computer is non-responsive. Happens on both IE7 and IE8 on multiple computers in multiple domains with multiple virus scanners.

Could blame ESPN, but truthfully, how can a browser do that? Stupid Microsoft.

Never happened to me nick. I've left ESPN for hours when I left the computer, and came back to no issues. In fact, I will leave it on before I go to bed here ina few minutes and report back my non findings in the morning.

Uninstall it, then reboot.

Uninstall all toolbars and so forth that have been added to IE. Reboot.

In Internet Options, use the "Reset" button to, well, reset things. Reboot.

Install IE 8 again. Reboot.

FYI Nick,

Opened ESPN, hit about 12 pages in there. Left it open. Opened photoshop, access, windows media center, watched an episode of Twilight Zone (25 minutes) came back to ESPN. No issues.

Weird gets me everytime.

Maybe its only after watching a video on ESPN.com?

Almost all problems updating from IE7 to IE8 can be avoided by making the IE7 installation clean before doing the update. The more toolbars and other crap are installed on IE7, the more likely the IE8 installation is to be crashy.

That being said, the only time I use IE8 is when I want to make sure my sites work in it. I prefer Firefox, Opera, Chrome, almost anything.
