From another 1946/1947 picture. This one is pretty easy.

Scott is correct. There are no mountains near Chicago.

Think west, young man. The city is much, much closer to Albuquerque than it is to Chicago. But it is not Albuquerque, Phoenix, nor Flagstaff.

Well, State Street sure doesn't look like that anymore - a victim of Urban Renewal - but that is the old City-County Building in Salt Lake City.

It looked familiar to me, and then "Pershon" was my clue - a fine old Utah name. Interestingly enough I don't think any of those businesses are still around there although "Bilt-Well" was a furniture company that was all over the US in an earlier era.

It is Salt Lake City. Excellent. Quite a lot of difference between then and today.

That building once served at State Capitol of Utah.

Here's how the Utah capitol looked at that time. I think this picture was probably taken at/near one of the rail depots (UP, probably). You may not be able to see it here, but the bills posted on the fence clearly indicate Salt Lake City.
