FINALLY....my cousin from CT came down this weekend and we went flying. He is a CFI out of HPN/GBR. I wake up this morning and turn on the news to make sure the roads are going to be ok since we had some snow last night. Everything was good.

We get to the airport and I preflighted the plane. Since I didn't have enough headsets we didn't use any. (So much for trying out my new pair of Lightspeed 30 - 3G's I bought from Jeff). Checked the AWOS and there was a pretty good x/wind, for me anyways. 10 peak gust 17.

Took off and I feel as if I am going to be slammed down but we made it up but I was very right of centerline. My cousin looked at me and said "Im just the passenger." So we flew over downtown Raleigh, Lake Wheeler and back to JNX since him and his friend had to take the train back to NYC today. When I landed I had a 90* x/wind. I flaired a little to high, but made it down safely. My cousin even told me it was a nice landing...just flaired a little too high.

All in all a good day of flying and I logged 1.1 today.

I was just thinking this morning while walking the dog, "looks like a pretty good flying day, but probably a bit windy..." :D

Sounds fun. I have done so little flying the past couple of months due to truly *excremety* WX in the Midwest! I did visit my plane on Friday to see how it was doing and to drop of the log books as it goes in for its annual today.

This annual will hopefully be uneventful. The only thing I plan on doing is a new oil cooler and I got a coupon for free dynamic prop balancing. I did notice my wheel pant crack that was patched last year cracked again. SIGH! It just may be time for new pants.

I stuffed the two giant electric space heaters under the cowl of my airplane and left. Two hours later the engine was still stone cold. Then, when I went to install the oil cooler cover I dropped the %^@^$@^$!! screw. The whole time I said to myself, "now don't drop the screw". I dropped the screw. Try finding a screw in a giant messy hangar.

I decided there must be some higher power telling me not to fly, and went home.

have yerself a hangar sheet - old white sheet you can lay down under whatever you're working on. It'll absorb energy and the screw won't even bounce - it'll just hit and stay there. :)
