Turnkey Internet in Latham, New York. Why?
1. A real, live, honest-to-goodness American answered the phone when I called their support number at 4:00 a.m. before I opened an account.
2. That American knew what he was talking about.
3. Fast setup.
4. Super-fast support responses to every ticket I submitted, including one where a Cpanel installation hosed the NIC settings and I had no connectivity to fix it.
5. Very reasonable prices.
For me personally, they're also sort of local -- about two hours away, give or take.
My previous hosting company, with whom I'd been for seven years, **** the bed with gusto after an acquisition or merger with another company. A routine server migration became a two-week (and counting) sojourn through the Tenth Circle of Hell -- the one even Dante couldn't bring himself to write about. My experience with Turnkey has been like a breath of fresh air.
So far I've set up three cloud servers and moved a whole bunch of accounts, and the process has been a pleasure. The only hiccup was the problem with the cPanel thing, which I could have avoided by specifying that the OS be pre-loaded with CentOS and cPanel. I was trying to avoid the updates (which take longer than a fresh installation), so that was my fault. The pre-loaded images have that problem corrected.
Full disclosure: The link up top is a referral link. I get some sort of compensation if anyone signs up. Hey, we're not communists, after all.
