I need a seaplane

Saltwater?
Eats seaplanes.....or so I’ve been told.

Yeah, the salt has been a concern. But I have a lift for a 50 foot boat that I could modify to accommodate floats, and spray it off after use like I do the boat that uses the other lift...

Nice place, Ken! A J3 Cub on floats would look great out there.

Oh I want one as well. Ever since I got my ASES rating, every suitable body of water I see I visualize landing on it.

It’s maddening!

:D

Great picture, Ken! Looks like it was a beautiful night. I’ll go with you to get the seaplane rating!

You'll need a DeLorean. I got that 20 years ago. You get yours; I'll go along and sit on the deck at Jack Browns rating your landings.

My fav seaplane for play flying is a 160-180hp Cub. For utility flying it's a Skywagon. I'd rather have a Murphy Moose than a Beaver for private ops.

I will take that deal! Right after I get my Type Rating in the Phenom 300!

As much as I love my 185, if I was working it full time and loading stuff/pad I’d probably want U206 with the rear door and side door STC.

U206s are great planes. At Lake Hood it’s the plane of choice for 135 float operators, along with Beavers. I rarely see any air taxi 185s any more. The majority of those 206s have WingX extensions, IO-550s, and Aerocets.

Didn’t aerocet copy the hull of the edo and the top deck of whip?

Can’t say. I remember several years back walking around the AK Airman’s Show with Wes Landes, the founder of Airglas. There was a set of Aerocets on display and I asked Wes what he thought of them. He said aluminum floats were doomed. Aerocet will change the business. And they have.

I’d love a set of amphibs on my Cub but they don’t make them. Straights are $30K. I can buy good used EDOs 3 times for that. Amphibs for a Skywagon are $95K. Ouch!

Wasn’t there a weight or Waterlog thing with the composite floats vs aluminum though?

I have several friends with Aerocets. They all love them. I don’t think there is a down side other than price.

All the Otters here have been converted to turbo props. Sort of miss the old piston engines, but they sure were loud. The pilots love the performance of the turbine over the piston,, Ward Airs new turbine Beaver is impressive.

An air taxi owner friend told me a long time ago that turbines were the future because of insurance costs for piston singles. I don’t see many turbine Beavers in the commercial fleet but you’re right about Otters. I rarely see a piston Otter any more.

Are you replacing the Eclipse?

I don’t want to hijack the thread.

Not necessarily. I have started looking at other options, but I have no real need to make a move right now.

I have been flying as SIC in one for a while and think that there may be more of it coming. As a result, I may get the Type Rating to do some more contract flying. There is lots more opportunity in that than in the Citation Ultra!

I mainly just liked the tail number on the Northway Beaver, lol

You're right, Ken. You need a seaplane.

Then you need to let me borrow it for fuel so I can get my rating.
