I love it. I staged all my computers and virtual machines today to get a good picture of what I do at work. I think I need a few more computers/monitors:

Left to Right:

My laptop, used for testing our wireless software
My Windows XP Machine, used primarily for writing html and some php
My web development server (Virtual Server console on the Windows box), used to test our external website
My other web development server (Virtual Server console on the Windows box), used for the redesign of our external website
My other web development server (Remote Desktop Connection on the Windows box), running Windows Server 2003 and IIS, used to test our intranet
My Ubuntu 8.10 Machine, used primarily for software coding and php work

Also, not pictured, is my PDA, for testing wireless workorders for maintenance, and in the Server room is about 3 more servers that I do not remote into and instead work directly with.

I moved out of my old "new" office, into my new "new" office this morning, so I figured I'd stage a picture :D

Is that a bottle of antacid on the shelf to the left?

Is that Dr. Pepper on the far right?

Is that R.C or a Pepsi on the far left???? I think Mr Brennan is straying from his beloved Dr.....

You know Pepsi is the first step towards Mr. Pibb

Wow...so attentive :D

That is a bottle of Kroger extra strength Smooth Antacid, for the days when I wish I didn't have as many systems.

That is a bottle of RC Cola, which I bought because I hadn't had it in years.

And that is most certainly Dr. Pepper.

I can drink Pibb eXtra, but not Mr. Pibb. I think think it tastes like urinal cakes.

Looks just like my desk ... I don't think I need any more systems, tho ... mine is just a window into many rooms that look just like this...

OK, Scott - you win the award: Most Appropriate Graphic to Illustrate a Thread Point.

I smell a Nerd-Off...

This is my personal lab/nerd space (I'd post work pics, but they kind of frown on that, generally speaking.) The stack of machines:

  • Top row: 2 old, OLD, literally falling apart,to-be-decommissioned generic boxes I snagged from a couple old old projects... They're my original 2 servers, and comprise my current (soon-to-be-former) Exchange 2003 cluster.
  • Middle row, left: My NAS box. Runs FreeNAS, ~1TB RAID-5 array for storage of music, pictures, and movies, ~300GB RAID-1 array initially used for iSCSI shared storage for clustered services, now used for additional storage of other random stuff (I use DFS to distribute my really important documents and other stuff across the two arrays and to a share on one of my other servers)
  • Middle row, right: My old desktop, current secondary VMWare ESXi host. 4 guests:
    • Windows Server 2003: Secondary AD & DNS
    • Windows XP32: Remote workstation
    • Random, virtually unused Ubuntu Server
    • Windows Server 2003: "Node 2" of the yet-to-be-implemented replacement Exchange 2003 cluster
  • Bottom: Dell SC1425, dual single-core 3.2GHz Xeon procs, 8GB RAM. Primary VMWare ESXi host with 7 guests:
    • Windows Server 2003: Primary AD & DNS
    • Windows Server 2003: VPN & general application server
    • Windows Server 2003: Web server
    • Windows Server 2003: DB server (MySQL)
    • Windows Server 2003: "Node 2" of the yet-to-be-implemented replacement Exchange 2003 cluster
    • TrixBox
    • Windows 7 Beta (which I've not really touched at all yet)
(And yes, all of the above is appropriately licensed.)
Left to right on the desk:

  • IOGear 4-port KVM switch (highly recommended)
  • DSL modem (Speakeasy effing RULES, btw)
  • Cisco PIX 501 (bottom)
  • NetGear 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switch (top) (totally unnecessary at the moment)
  • NetGear 8-port Gigabit Ethernet switch (I guess it'd be my "core" switch)
  • Linksys wireless (802.11n) router/switch/whatever
  • Sony VAIO VGN-UX280P
And my Kindle is sitting there, my old iPod Nano, my old camcorder and some other random stuff.

And then there's my actual, usual workstation with my MacBook and printer which is in another room.

So yeah, I've got too much stuff. But I'm getting rid of the 2 old servers, but probably getting another old box to run TrixBox with a POTS card and do it for real.

Good times. And no, I've never turned that radiator on... :D

All those systems are why I had to move down there in the first place. ;)

This is my home setup. One computer is out for repairs. The far table is mine. The near table is Hubby's.
