Funny thing is I barely have need for a phone but I do have a lot of need/utility out of a pocket sized computer with internet access.
Same here, voice coms is barely used, text, email, and hotspot is the main use, occasional browser use.

If they ever stop making BlackBerries, I'll probably go back to a dumb phone.

Here's the thing on iPhones: You might as well get them when they first come out. They don't get much cheaper, and when they do discount them, it's because they're half way to obselecence. On the other hand, my existing phone looses value every day. Ditch the old phone when the new phone comes out and you may come out ahead, minute the two year commitment thing.
As for iphone versus an old flip phone: between flying, my job that involves commuting via public transportation, and a volunteer EMS gig that often involves hanging around, my iphone provides communication, information, news, entertainment etc., that fits in my pocket. In the grand scheme of things, it's pretty cheap for what it offers me.
On the other hand, my parents both have flip phones and could be happier.
I'm not too impressed with the spell checker on your whiz bang phone. :wink2:
