I'm an IT professional so you think I would go gaga about the IPhone 6 but I could really care less. I'm so sick of hearing about it.

In generally I do not get excited about Cell phones. I use my Iphone 5s to make phone calls of course, Text, Email and some Apps. Oh I do use the camera and Video.

I'm guess I weird. :dunno:

I was buying a new case for my iPad 2 and saw the 6 & 6+, I failed to have an orgasm at heir sight. I still prefer Android for a phone, the Note series is a good size, I carried it for a few days and it works out ok even working in shorts. But barring something happening, I won't replace my Galaxy S4 for a couple more years.

Someone told me the other day I must get a Iphone 6+. I said why. He said "I don't know I just have to have one". No wonder Apple sales are out the roof with people like that.

I think I've had my phone for a bit over 2 years. The battery still holds a charge, the phone works, so why should I replace it? And it isn't from that company named after a fruit. I've never understood the cult with that company's products.

The new phones are old the day they are introduced. Technology changes so fast you can skip a model or two with no big loss.

Me too.

To a lot of people it's a status symbol. Or their way of being cool. Some people use it for work others because android is too complicated.

I'm in love with my Moto X and can't wait for the new one. Best phone ever, IMO.

I bought the 4-S when the 5 series came out last September. As the discontinued model, while they lasted at AT&T - 99 cents, though I had to sign for a 2 yr. contract(mine was about ready to expire. So the other day I bought the 5-S with 16 gig standard, whereas flight programs were getting close the full mark on the 8 gig 4-S. I was very pleased when I had a $200 credit applied for the old 4-S toward the new account which did NOT REQUIRE a new contract, just extrude my existing contract. AND my monthly invoice went down $17.00; not a bad deal.

I find the ability to have a pocket computer capable of tapping the sum total of man's knowledge with just a couple clicks to be something out of Star Trek!

The fact that its also a phone and a camera and can display every VFR and IFR charts of the entire country and Lord knows what else, reminds me of Arthur C. Clarke's Third Law:

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

Growing up in the 1950's, I remember small portable radios had status, based on the number of transistors they had.

I was in Vegas last week with a buddy of mine, he got so excited the his iPhone 6 was shipped! :dunno: I said, "damnit Bill, you're a 50 year old man, not a 16 year old girl!" :mad2: He's a tech junkie!..........correction, he's an Apple junky!:D

Every year more transistors are produced in California than rain drops fall in the entire State! It's been that way for a long time too...

In 2010 it was estimated that 1 Billion transistors were produced for every person on the planet.

Now that I am getting older my aging eyes appreciate the larger screens. I have an iPhone 5 that I like other than the screen is smaller than I would prefer. Verizon has a promotion where they will give you a $200 credit for your old iPhone toward a new 6 or 6+. Since the $200 credit makes it a wash to get the newer phone, I can't see any reason not to. Yes it extends your contract another two years but I would be with them for two more years anyway.

VoLTE is enabled on the 6 on VZ's network. That's about the only thing I've seen that justifies an upgrade.

Even with the free swap? Since you can trade your old iPhone even for a 6, it seems like a no brainer to me to make the transition. The only down side I see is your old OtterBox case or whatever accessories you might have had for the old phone that won't work for the 6 would have to be replaced. You don't even send in your old phone charger so you would even have an extra.

Some people have to have a new car every two years, some like to have a new phone every two years. Frankly the latter is much cheaper.

True, but I like the new car every two years crowd! :D

The iPhone cost me an extra $20 a month roughly. It got Mrs. Steingar off my case, for which it was worth way, way more.

The texting can be really wonderful, just say what you want and be done with it. The weather apps are super, and the GPS works just fine. It has enough room for enough tunes to keep me happy for at least a month. I've even used the camera to send the odd sight back home. Why not? And I've even done some useful things with it.

I've no need for another phone, the one I have works just fine for the nonce. I certainly don't want another operating system, the one it came with seems to be holding up its end.

I am glad I got the iPhone, since it seems to work seamlessly with my computers. I suspect some of you enjoy playing around with these things, I decidedly do not.

My Galaxy S3 does just fine. It'll be two years old in December, which means I'll upgrade to the S5, but I don't need it quicker than that. People are stupid.

Mt last name must be "Flintstone". I still have a flip phone, but I travel with a DSLR and a laptop. Why should I be paying Verizon for all the unneeded garbage? :D

I have an Amish friend who wonders why you carry all the crap that you do! :D

I also have only a flip phone. The only reason I got it was that, before Lockheed Martin took over, Flight Service wait times were around 20 minutes in the Washington DC area and the cell made it possible to drive to the airport while on hold. My airport is in the Flight Restricted zone and requires filing a light plan by telephone for all operations.

Another vote for a brain dead flip phone. Had it for close to ten years.
It is beat and ugly.
But it works. Non data line is cheap phone service.
When the day comes I lose it out in the field and then run a 30,000 pound combine over it (shrug - no loss)

I have a screaming hot, ears laid back, bit-in-the-teeth, 'quad' computer if I need to do something highly, highly, intensively technical - like post on here.

A lot of new technology is so unnecessary and about status.

Here's the thing on iPhones: You might as well get them when they first come out. They don't get much cheaper, and when they do discount them, it's because they're half way to obselecence. On the other hand, my existing phone looses value every day. Ditch the old phone when the new phone comes out and you may come out ahead, minute the two year commitment thing.

As for iphone versus an old flip phone: between flying, my job that involves commuting via public transportation, and a volunteer EMS gig that often involves hanging around, my iphone provides communication, information, news, entertainment etc., that fits in my pocket. In the grand scheme of things, it's pretty cheap for what it offers me.

On the other hand, my parents both have flip phones and could be happier.

Isn't the Iphone made by the amish? LOL

No, like all modern electronics, it's made by a combination of child labor, forced labor, & exploited labor in China.

I enjoy having a new phone when I get one, and I probably use my phone about as much as the average American, but rarely play games on it. I could live without it though if I had to.

And that same mindset is how a LOT of people elect their politicians, too

Funny thing is I barely have need for a phone but I do have a lot of need/utility out of a pocket sized computer with internet access.

Great comment.

I rarely use the phone part of my phone. Use the computer part all the time.

A pox on both their houses. Considering the marketing value of all the information their mobile tracking beacons are constantly gathering, Apple and Google ought to be paying users to use their phones.

If they ever stop making BlackBerries, I'll probably go back to a dumb phone.

The corporate tracking doesn't bother me too much by its self, they're just trying to advertise to me.... big deal.

The NSA tracking and the ability of the government to get the data google/apple are collecting bothers me a lot. The government's only reason for having that is to put me in jail or limit my speech.... a far greater concern and one we don't seem to be able to do anything about. In theory I shouldn't have anything to worry about... but you never know.

I pretty much despise them and get by with old dumb flip phone.
The irony is where I work and what I do for a living.
