in which you guys were talking about the stuff you put on your black plastic on your vehicles to bring back the color. Specifically, it was in a thread in which someone posted a picture of it and posted another picture of the old label of the product. What was it?

I've tried the Turtle Wax stuff and the Mother's stuff and several others that just don't work.

Back to black works but like Glenn said it won't last long. Next wash and re apply. WD 40 works well for that too.

Maxima "SC-1" works well, as does "Shine Spray" by Stoner products (not joking, that's the company). Stoner stuff is usually in big chain auto parts stores. Maxima oils and chemicals (including SC-1) should be in many motorcycle shops or motorcycle online stores. It's normally used for putting a shine on MX bike plastic. Both are aerosols.

What I usually do with the aerosols is wax the truck, then before I buff it off, I spray the tires with whatever I'm using, then get the black plastic (bumper covers, mirror trim etc) with the shine spray. This way, buffing off the wax also gets rid of overspray.

I've tried everything from the commercial products (except the one I saw here) motor oil and black shoe polish.

If you use a heat gun and don't let it sit in one spot too long that will do a good job bringing the color back. It releases the oil in the plastic bringing back the color.

If you want something that actually WILL "bring back" color then you should use Solution Finish Black Plastic & Vinyl Restorer (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006NZQ3T8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Forever Black works as well, but I avoid using this unless you absolutely need to as it is dye based: http://www.autogeek.net/forblacbumtr.html

I would recommend reading this as well: http://www.autogeek.net/trim-molding.html

303 Aerospace Protectant is an EXCELLENT product for maintaining black plastic as is CarPro PERL and Wolfgang Trim Sealant (this stuff is awesome)...many other products but these are well known in the professional detailing world. For RESTORATION of color though you need to use Solution Finish.

If you ever any issues regarding detailing stuff let me know...detailing has been a "hobby" of mine for some time and I am very familiar with detailing product and love to share my knowledge...(especially when it comes to protecting a vehicle from the Arizona sun!)

This is true...just be cautious about what your doing. This can be painful if you have a lot of surface area to cover, but it does do wonders.

Tim,

Glad it worked.. That stuff is like Frank's red hot. I used that **** on everything. Convertible top, sunbrella sail covers on my sailboat, black plastic on the car, patio furniture.
