How to kill this chinese evil plant / flower vine? N/A

Hi everyone.

Does any one know how to permanently do away with this scourge?

It grows about 1 ft / day under chairs, in the dark, climbs straight up without support and destroys fruit trees it stretches over concrete for over 50 ft then if it finds some dirt, even if it's broken from the main root, it multiplies…

I went to some local flower shops and no one knows what it is. The flower, very good looking, is bout 3-4 in. in diameter when open.

I want to make sure I burn this before it finds it’s way in my place. This is a place at visit about once a month, in So Cal.

Chlorine bleach maybe. I use it as week killer and it works great. Next time I’m going to get the no splash type so it’s add most sticky

that’s one reason I like my bleach, harsh chemicals but not really dna altering. Besides the homeowner grade crap does not fully cut it always. If it’s in a Rick garden one other advantage is it raises the ph in the soil so it’s not friendly to new growth…

Mixture of 30% or higher vinegar, some liquid soap and some salt will do it. Any area that gets sprayed will be barren for quite a while. Don't add the salt if you want something that works temporarily.

if so, it is Kudzu, aka Chinese Arrowroot, aka, the plant that ate the South.

There are several methods to kill it including digging it up, letting a goat eat it, or using chemicals.

I even went over the fence after he moved out with a shovel to go after it. It took several spec ops behind enemy lines, but eventually, I destroyed their will to continue to fight.

Depends on what type bamboo it was. There are running types and clumping types. Runner will take over an area quickly, while clumping would take years to decades to spread the same distance. We want to add some Nigra or Moso to our landscape. Both are clumping and will grow to 70+ feet tall.

Of course, you aren't really burning the weeds. You are more boiling the water in the cells, and singeing the outer skin so it can't maintain moisture. In fact, I typically water the weeds before attacking them with the flames to prevent fires.

My neighbor on the other side isn't very conscientious about weeding, and the thistle on his side of the fence keeps coming under to my side. So, that's not much help. But there is also fair amount of the rhizomes in the ground on my side. I tried pulling, weed flaming, cutting (constantly cutting it back trying to wear them out), digging to try to get the rhizomes, -- nothing seems to be doing the trick. They just keep coming. Every weekend I go out, and the new shoots seem happy to see me again.

I'd think anything with 2,4-D would probably work. There is a product called "Thisledown" that would likely work as well. Most of that stuff has to be treated in the Fall and again in early Spring to kill the seeds/rhizomes before they germinate. Otherwise, you're just killing the plant, but not preventing the seeds from sprouting up the next Spring.

Pre-emergent 2,4D and Banvel or Crossbow mix work well on thistle. Crossbow will yellow the grass a bit, but it comes back ok.

Read the herbicide label. Yes, I know, it's boring, but it actually provides useful, even critical, information. Most plants have to be attacked when very small, like 2-4 inches. Some, like thistles, are killed best in the fall as they enter senescence (consider Marksman). Glyphosate (has many brand names, one is Roundup) is a systemic killer that takes about 2 weeks to show results. 2,4-D is a good broad leaf killer. Also dicamba (but be extremely careful because it moves).
I'd take a picture to the local state agricultural university extension office for identification. Then you can research how to eradicate it.

I did try some Weed killer form Home Depot but it did not help.
I do not know if it chinese I just believe it is because everything nasty comes from China.
@bflynn as you can see it is not a cluster but it can have many flowers close together.

Ok, not kudzu, but probably a relative.

what I would try is to pull all the vines down I could. Trace them back to the root and dig up the root crown. It’s work, but it is a very effective, non chemical way to get rid of it. You don’t need to get all the root out, just the crown. Monitor for regrowth.

or, you can pull it all off the tree, bundle it around the root and spray it with full strength roundup, the stuff that kills everything. Again, keep an eye on it to see if it regrows. Eventually the root system will be exhausted and die.

either way, get it off the tree.

I have sprayed thousands of gallons of it by commercial sprayer
I consider it a safe and tame weed killer
It simply confuses the sugar cycle in the plant
Its not like its a deadly poison or something


Just because some woman used a bit in her garden and won a lawsuit means nothing .Who is to say she didnt get cancer from something else . The lawsuit is more a reflection of the american lawsuit industry . Hot coffee on your lap can make you millions.

Use a small amount on a brush and just put a dab on the plant and leave it alone . That way you dont kill the surrounding grass etc. A small amount will do hundreds of plants. Takes a week or two to see results ... so give it time to reach the roots.

Have you gone to a Nursery and asked? Local knowledge from a pro is usually a pretty good idea.

Good advice .... there are a few plants that Roundup does not work on.

When weeds grow in the cracks in my sidewalk I simply boil a kettle of water and pour some in the crack ... completely brown and dead the next day .... I bet a gallon of boiling water poured at the base of that invasive Chinese flower would kill it too.

Cheap and non toxic .

Be safe .... Buy a large cheap electric kettle and fill it with hot water from your tap ... boils quickly and is safe to carry .... years ago I heated a pot on the stove but too tippy to carry out ... spill some on your foot , kid , or pet will make for serious burns. thanks.

I don't know that plant...but I have a chinese nemesis in my yard that has all but won. I give up
bullet grass, also know as torpedo grass. It has this rhizome under ground that I've seen several feet deep so near impossible to dig up. Round up only kills back to a little nub on this rhizome.
Seems like a lot of these asian invasive species are this way.....nearly impossible to control.

That stuff almost looks like a purple trumpet vine. Hard to tell from the small pic size, but that's what it resembles, and trumpet vines are pretty common in the wilderness as well as being quite hardy.

Good safety advice although I’ve managed to pour near boiling water on my foot with one if those cheap kettles when I lowered my arm and hung the kettle at the wrong angle while waiting for the first round to get through the pour over coffee filter. Not having drunk coffee yet probably had something to do with it.

I am the same .... takes 2 coffee and one cigarette before my morning brain starts working . I ended up with one of these stove top 2 gallon monsters ... I like the narrow spout for aiming at weeds .... use it also to heat water when camping ... paid about $25 for it but looks like prices have gone up.

It looks like a Clytostoma or Bignonia species. They are from the Americas, not China, likely South America.
Cut the tops off, drill into the roots, and apply a non-specific herbicide. You will need multiple applications and persistence.

Your comment sounds racist. Reading it, I can draw a Venn diagram with an outer circled labeled "China" and a circle wholly within the "China" reading "All things nasty". I sure hope that isn't your true felling about China or Chinese.
