How tight is too tight?

I was parking a king air with a 57’11” wingspan in a 60’ door and that was anything but comfortable. I can’t possibly imagine only having 3”. My depth perception is good, but not that good.
 
If it fits it fits. Paint lines on the floor for the mains, if they are on them you're good if they're not on them then what are you doing?
 
Most fool-proof will be getting some small angle-iron for guides on the mains to bolt down to the hangar floor, taped/painted lines outside to line up for the channels. Otherwise, just paint/tape the lines and ensure the mains are on it at all times. I'd make sure the tape width is narrower than the tires so that even getting off of the tape by an inch causes you panic, lol.

The work, plus the stress of moving someone else's plane, is a pretty major damper on enthusiasm for flight. As hangars go, it's very inexpensive and I'm a beer budget owner, but have been seriously considering springing for a private hangar.

Yep! I'll second (or third?) this. I'm part owner on a T-28 parked in a group hangar; it's stashed in the back, so we have to move two other planes to get it out. On a Houston summer day this gets to be a hot and sweaty chore and just takes the fun right out of it, so we don't really fly it much... but on the upside, not flying it saves on gas money! It's a thirsty, spendy pig to fly. Fun though. If the hangar was easier access I'd probably fly it more...

The smarter one wasn’t flying.

I’m with the camp that thinks, if there is too much work getting the plane into or out of a hanger the draw to fly definitely can take a hit. Heck I think that when having to push an airplane into a hangar where space isn’t an issue but a slight incline is.
 
When I worked in a marina there was always a debate about how tight a stuffing box should be
