How much fun can you have ?

There's some serious motivation to dump the rental junk that mandates 5000x100 runways.

I think that video went around just after Pete's untimely death in a Carbon Cub also, here at his home and private airport in Colorado.

Good to see it again though. It sure looks like they were having a ball that day.

Sorry,,,,,, I didn't know the dude was dead.

Cool video.

Our realtor owns a C-180 that he lands on uninhabited beaches all over South Texas, collecting shells, driftwood, etc. He's got an amazing collection, and has had a blast acquiring it.

Makes me long for a tailwheel plane.

A tailwheel doesn't make much difference for landing on beaches. You could land a Lear Jet at Copalis.

Started flying ULs in Nebraska and landed on sand bars on the Platte River. Those were the days. :hairraise:

Sorry to hear such an adventurer lost his life, but glad I saw the video.

No, not your fault. Pete stalled and spun a Carbon Cub that was just in from the factory on a blustery day, while demonstrating a max-performance takeoff at a private airport near here.

There are those who have quietly said he was hot-dogging too much.

There are also those who say "no way".

One of those things... I have no opinion either way on it.

NTSB will probably say "Pilot failed to maintain adequate airspeed."

He had a long aviation career, military, airlines, and then as a CC dealer/helping with their marketing. He was having a ball.

Everyone in aviation eventually knows someone who died doing it.

If there's a heaven, I'm sure he's glad the video's still going around. His cohort that day showed it at his funeral, I heard. I couldn't get out there that morning as I was double-booked.

My co-owners knew him better than I. They rented a hangar from him out there to hold our airplane prior to finding one at KAPA when they first bought it.

You might land it there (only because the sand will make up for the lack of runway length), but I'll bet you don't fly it out of there.

Sand FOD a Lear's engines, gear, etc. I bet the mechanics would be really ticked.
