I got my first tattoo last year. A small Hawaiin tribal honu (turtle) on my left ankle. But I am thinking of another.

I would like a Tinglet Orca and I have a attached a photo of it to this message.

But I was wondering how many of you have tattoos?

Thought about it from time to time, but can't seem to figure out something I won't regret having permanently etched into my flesh 20 years down the road. :D

It took me 5 years to decide what I wanted and even then I placed it where it can easily be covered up. I am considering the second one and it was one of the two finalists from the last go around. I am still trying to decide where I want it, the other ankle is one idea, shoulder is another. But I don't want it too big either so that I look all tattoo'ed up as I don't like that look.

Thought about it briefly too and since there's nothing I want to look at for 24/7 for eternity, instead custom designed and had casted a few pilots' rings in solid 22k gold with a few gemstones set into highly detailed, classic pilots' wings to complete the pilot's uniform.

They go off & on much more easily than tatoos I've found, and they're soooo shiny.

I have nothing against tats but I think they look much better on women. Sorry no tats here.

8 years in the Navy and resisted every time ... nope, not for me.

Hey hey... there's an idea.

Or... I could just take the money from either and go flying :)

I also resisted the urge, even when several of my fellow puddle-pirates got them... It helped that I was usually the sober one.

The little money invested in such partial appeasements of vanity and PR will also get you some flying, I guarantee it.

In these parts we call 'em trailer tats as most of the women with them are, shall we say, less than desireable.:D

Ain't that the truth. I almost got one when I got my CFI, me and my 5 college buds got our CFI's all about the same time and was going to celebrate in a monumental way. All I can say is I'm glad I was the sober one. I am still and will remain a clean slate thankyouverymuch.

I am stupid. Got a dumb tattoo when I was a teenager using a guitar string, a RC car motor and a mechanical pencil dipped in Indian Ink.

Tried to get it covered with an equally stupid tattoo a few years later.

Beer and ink don't mix, kids.

I've been thinking about a tattoo for a few years, just to chicken*&%^ to do it.

My brother-in-law and I have knocked the idea back and forth, putting 11 tooth cogs on our ankles (were both cyclists).

I dunno, every time I get interested, I just don't want to do it. However, well designed ink on a female can be downright beautiful. Art man, art...

Cheers,

-Andrew

I have too, well, for more than a few years. I used to say that I would wait until I was 50, but now let's make that 60.

Pictures Nick, Pictures!

No tatoos, piercings, brandings, etc for me. None.

What's the deal with every younger girl having the tattoo in the small of her back so when the bend over you can see the tatoo, thong, and practically everything else.

Not now, not ever. I'm not into personal ornamentation, but to each his own. Just not my kids!!! If my girls ever decide it would be cool to do so I'll grab a belt sander and take it off myself.;)

There was an old guy who used to work in my office building who obviously had served in the navy. He was partial to the short sleeves-with-tie look, so probably an engineer. Anyway, what once was probably a stunning pair of mermaids or something swimming up his forearms had become a hideous twisted blob of who knows what - maybe they were manatees, or hippopotami, hard to tell. Bad look on a 60-something....

Actually, I have no tats. I did get an ear pierced when I turned thirty. It has long since closed up though. I'm not averse to the idea of a tattoo. I AM averse to the idea of self inflicted pain.

I guess we now know where you eyes are affixed? :D:yes::D

I did see a girl with a tattoo like that on the top of her backside that was of a woman lying on her back with her legs up in the air and stark naked. I was really wondering about why she chose that one. It was strange!!

I got an earring in 1978 when I was 19 and I have worn a small ruby stud there since my wife gave it to me a week after we met. I did switch to a small diamond about 8 years ago, but I lost it the first day. Only earring I've ever lost. I figured that was karma and went back to the ruby.

But no tatoos. When I think about what I might have inked on my body when I was young had tattoos been popular then, I feel kind of foolish.

Our daughter got "talked into it" (tattoo) when she turned 18 by a couple of her friends. She got a little dolphin over her hip. My wife, after getting over the anger of "how can you be so stupid to let yourself get talked into that with 'all my friends are doing it'" said "Cute. Just wait until you're married and pregnant, and that little dolphin turns into a grey whale!"

Got one about 13 years ago, then had it re-done about 5 years ago. It's unique to me, has a great deal of personal significance and I'm glad I got it. Not getting it would not have bought me one minute of air time (wasn't flying then, and the moola would've been LONG gone by the time I started flying). Might get it amended, though - now that I have a reason to add a feather! :)

Not long ago my wife informed me that my 18 year old son (who had just moved out of the house) was going to get a tattoo.
"I need to tell you something about James and you're not going to be happy. He's going to get a tat."

I was livid. I thundered around the house dropping the f-bomb every five seconds. When I finally said, "Why in the hell does he want a *#&^ tattoo?" she gave me a funny look.
"A tattoo? Who said he was getting a tattoo?"
"You said he was getting a tat."
"No, I said he is getting a cat!"

Even worse.

I got one on my upper arm @ 18. It is a nice piece of personal art & still looks good 20 yrs later. I can hid it at job interviews if need be. I can't understand people that get things on their neck & other places that cannot be hidden.

If I ever get another, I would consider the Bart Simson belly button Tat :) :)

I pierced my ear at 15 or so. The purple feather went great with my 80's hair :)

I had my tongue pierced last year. I couldn't talk, I couldn't eat & I couldn't even think. I pulled it out after 3 hrs.. Never again :)

Never had one, would never get one. Would probably think twice about dating a girl with one.

Etsisk, I'm curious, what was the tat of? You didn't mention that in your post.

I'm also interested to note that the more left leaning side of the board seems to have gotten tattoos while the more right side of the board hasn't. Interesting.

EDIT, I just pulled up Eamon's Bartass, ROTFL!!

LOL! Too true. I lost my dog last spring, looked at several litters this summer, but no fat puppy waddled forth and claimed me as his owner. Still looking. I do have a border collie, Bert, on the farm. But he doesn't count...too fickle and cat-like, only shows up when it personally interests him...

(He doesn't have any tats, nor do I).

I understand that getting those things hurts. No thank you.

That's what everyone has told me..one of the many reasons for me NOT to get one. But some people don't seem to mind. I saw a guy once who had a yellow rose tattooed on the end of his...er..ah... manhood. Complete with stem in the appropriate place. He was running around the neighborhood naked, high on crack. He was not difficult to spot :D

How in the world he stood still long enough for someone to tattoo that thing THERE, I'll never know.

You meet the most interesting people don't you??

My tattoo is pretty small, a little bigger than a quarter and it jsut felt like someone scratching on my ankle.

You don't know the half of it! :D But I do interact with a much more classy group of misfits these days.

:D How can you not look when they bend over right in front of you and that damn tatoo shows up?

OMG I had the same purple feather that Eamon had. When I was at DEA HQ if my boss had particularly annoyed me I'd resurrect some big-azz hanging earring to frustrate him, since civil service rules forbid him to complain about it.

Geeze, I almost forgot about my pierced ear. Of course that sucker didn't cost a dime -- it was done with a piece of shrapnel from a B40 rocket kindly provided by a North Vietnamese regular :hairraise:

The good news is that the hole closed up in a couple of months. The bad news is that ear looks like someone took a bite out of it :D

Interesting results in the poll so far
[FONT=verdana, Arial, Helvetica]Life magazine estimated in 1936 that 10 million Americans, or approximately 6% of the population had at least one tattoo. A Harris Poll, done in 2003, nearly triples those numbers and estimates that 16% of Americans now have one or more tattoos
