Leslie's going to be arriving in Houston Sunday evening (6/28) a little after 6PM, and will be there Monday evening too. She'll be staying by the Houston Medical Center. Anyone want to get together one of those evenings for drinks or dinner?

PJ suggested
visit[ing] the Flying Saucer in Houston on Sunday night for $2.75 Texas Beer Night or Monday night for $2.75 pint night!

Absolutely! Monday night would be better for me... I would suggest the Flying Saucer, it has decent food, the best beer selection in the city, and it's just a short train ride up from the med center. Monday night is also $2.75 pint night, where you can get a pint of almost any of their 87 beers on tap for a low price!

Alternatively, I'll leave it up to Leslie to let us know what kind of food she'd like and we can find a place to take her.

I might be able to sneak up there to run into ya'll on Monday night. :)

Hi, all - thanks for the offering of hospitality! Monday would work better for me as well - The scheduled events are set to be over at 4:30 that day, figure I'll get out the door around 5, so after whatever time it takes to get back to the hotel and change should work well.

Beer and other nourishment at the Flying Saucer works for me - a relatively early evening, since I'll need to begin training around 8:30 on Tuesday. How do I get specifics on catching the train?

Leslie, my pleasure! I look forward to seeing you again! The $2.75 per pint discount starts at 7pm, so I think that's a good time to meet. The light rail in Houston pretty much only runs between the medical center and downtown, so it's pretty easy to navigate. It runs straight down the middle of Fannin St. in the med. ctr., and anyone at your hotel or any of the hospitals there can tell you how to get to it.

You'll want to get on the train heading north, towards UH-Downtown. As the train gets into downtown, it transitions over to Main St., and runs quite literally in front of the Flying Saucer. Unfortunately, the closest stations are a couple of blocks in either direction. I think it's slightly closer if you get off at the Preston station and walk south along Main St. until you get to Capitol St. The Flying Saucer is on the corner of Capitol and Main.

It will still be daylight when you come at 7:00p, and this part of downtown is very safe. I'll be sure to walk you back to the train station after we're done at the Saucer, as it will likely be dark by then. It's still a safe area, but you can never be too careful. You can find more info on the train at http://www.ridemetro.org.

Let me know if you have any questions and I hope some more people can make it out! I'll be sure to wear some kind of aviation-themed hat for those who have not met me to identify with. Sadly, I don't have a POA hat...

Okay, I have some bad news... I had something come up this afternoon and I'm not going to be able to make it tonight. I'm terribly sorry to have to cancel on you at the last minute like this, I feel really bad. I wish I could go.

PJ, sorry you can't make it! :( I don't know that Leslie will have a chance to see this before she leaves. Rick, are you going to be able to make it? If not, I'll send her a text message that it's canceled (unless someone else says they'll show up!)

Just read now. Not a problem, PJ; I saw it before heading out :) , and a good amount of questions popped up at today's training that really I need to spend some time preparing for tomorrow's session. But thanks for the invite - some other time!

Leslie
