So, in another of my "used to be able to do this" adventures, I decided to rebuild the Holley 4180 carb on my RV. I had those fleeting "what the heck am I thinking" moments when I sat it on the workbench and unfolded the parts diagram from the rebuild kit. I should have listened. ...

the newly rebuilt carb is leaking like a sieve ... :dunno:

Carbs can be tough, and it does require some special tooling. On my bike they're one of the few things I routinely leave to the mechanics.

On a serious note though, I assume you did get a new set of gaskets, rubber parts, and Floats, right?

I rebuilt a pair of Bings (probably much simpler than the holley) on my BMW, and the biggest recommendation was to replace all of the seals, including the float needle valves.

Where is it leaking? I had some problems until I got the floats adjusted correctly.

yeah - got a Holley rebuild kit - included everything (plus a few extras just to make life interesting) but didn't include floats ... mine were ok - no leaks (no gas inside them - no bubbles from them in a bucket of water)

looks like it might be coming from the accelerator pump - the pump diaphram had a black side (gasket type material) and a light green side (rubberish material) and the instructions did not specify "this side up" so in keeping with laying sod, I installed it "green side up" ... guess I'll call Holley tech support on this ... or light a match under the hood so I can see the leak better ...
