Historic hilarity

An email from Ireland to all of their brethren in the States...a point to ponder despite your political affiliation:


'We, in Ireland, can't figure out why you people are even botherin' to hold an election in the United States.


On one side, you had a pants wearing female lawyer, married to another lawyer who can't seem to keep his pants on, who just lost a long and heated primary against another lawyer, who goes to the wrong church, and is married to yet another lawyer, who doesn't even like the country her husband wants to run!


Now... on the other side, you have a nice old war hero whose name starts with the appropriate 'Mc' prefix, married to a great lookin' lass who runs a beer distributorship !!



What in God's name are ya lads thinkin, over in the colonies ?
 
Hmmm, there were at least 4 other guys and a woman on the ballot for President where I voted, not just one.

We were never a colony of Ireland and wouldn't a Mc prefix be Scottish? An Irish prefix would be O, so I doubt the truth of that email!!! ;)

We had two other old white guys in my state - Barr and Nade. Otherwise, it was the old white guy and young black guy.

Interesting how different it was in the various states. It'd be funny if somehow one of the major republican or democrat candidates didn't make it on the ballot for presidency, that would make me laugh.

Oh, there's provisions to make sure that doesn't happen. While the Onion article is funny, it underscores the problem we have - everyone thinks it's an either/or choice, rather than a or/or/or/or/or choice.

You have any idea how many times I was told I was throwing away my vote this year? Some people just don't understand how the election works....

So - lets say (as it was pretty close to this year) that it was a foregone conclusion that a democrat was going to win. Would it be throwing away your vote to vote for the republican in that case? Or even vice versa? Did the people that voted for McGovern throw away their vote?

How about the people that voted for Truman instead of Dewey....oh wait...that didn't turn out how people expected, did it?

The real differnce is the Irish drink enough Whiskey to see little men running around with pots of Gold. Scot's don't.

Everyone celebrates with or claims to be Irish once a year. Scottish?

A-freakin-men, Nick. A vote is *never* wasted. You can't possibly *know* the outcome of the election beforehand. I'd much rather have the results of the election reflect the will of the people, than simply who managed to get more people to get off their butts and go to the polls.

Even if your candidate doesn't win, your vote counts - An almost-tie sends a much different message than a landslide.
