After a number of years of Aviation Forum silence I decided it's time to join back into plane conversation. My name is Klaus and live in Central Washington state. There use to be a forum called pacificnorthwestflying.com and once it shut down I just kinda stopped chatting Aviation on the internet and I've missed it. :( ... So here I am.

See other pacificnorthwestflying.com refugees have been here for quite a while. Guess I'm just slow... o_O

Welcome, what kind of experience/ratings do you have?

I live near Boise, But occasionally fly and/or tow sailplanes out of Ephrata, WA.

Welcome! I hope to be back out there soon. I'm from Southern Idaho originally, but retiring at the end of the month, and we're planning to move to the Coeur d'Alene area (if we can find a house...)

I worked as an Air-Taxi mechanic most of my life (since 1984). Many Alaskan communities rely on Aviation and I did my part keeping the pilots and passengers travels boring and uneventful.

Welcome to POA Klaus.

I'm also a former PNWFer, and I miss it too. I was very disappointed when David shut it down. I contacted him a few times and he never did explain why he didn't hand off admin and responsibility to someone else. There were offers.

Where is "central WA?" I'll be needing an owner-assisted annual soon.

I think pacificnorthwestflying.com died (in part) because of the heavily marketed Facebook group called Flights above the Pacific Northwest. It is soooooo much easier for the forum administrator/manager to maintain a Facebook group than it is to keep up with the site management for a purely HTML based web presence with no intermediate interface. I inherited the Jefferson County Pilots Association (in NW Washington State) web page and gave up on the effort required to maintain it. I moved our content and interface to a private Facebook Group and it has been easy peasy since then. I'm more of a pilot than a computer guy, and I suspect that is true for many folks stuck with administering an aviation based website. By the way, welcome to this forum - it is always good to see some aviation-related sites being run by folks with enough energy and enthusiasm to deal with the HTML interface.

Welcome to the joint from another Pacific Northwest Flying expat. And a Washington expat.

I don’t think anybody could have resurrected it. It was all but dead. Almost everybody had already gone to that Facebook Group.

Yeah, David had multiple SPAM attacks and other complications so he decided to shut it down. I have no interest in signing up with Facebook or any of those types of social sites. Forum formats allow long running conversation on a single topic with easy search for information recall. Many times forum members information comes in very handy later when it's needed.

Couple things missed the most is the Airports of The Northwest board. David had every airport from SeaTac, Vancouver and Portland to the smallest private grass strip listed with each their own thread. Another PNW forum highlight was the Arlington Fly-In with the PNF Forum campsite hosted by Al and Tony. There was always a good story to be heard around the Beer Cooler. :p

Yeah on the Forum format. Reddit is hard for me to follow like Facebook is. POA seems less busy than it was not all that long ago.

I did not know about the forum that was terminated, but I do belong to the Flights Across the Pacific Northwest Facebook group. You don't have to pay attention to anything else on FB if you don't want to.

Wherever you are, Klaus, you must be close. I'm based at WN26, which is just north of Pullman.

I never encountered the former, but the latter is a great group! I live in the SFO area, but I grew up in Seattle, and the Pacific Northwest is my favorite area to fly.

The Facebook user interface definitely leaves a lot to be desired!

I looked at it when it was pretty new. It was just pictures. Like the Daily Pic thread here. No discussions about things like how’d a ya log this, fix that, where does the wing belong, what’s this approach plate saying, howda ya enter the pattern, what happened to Whitney, which are the right ribs to eat, ..etc etc. Has it changed much nowadays.

Flights Above - has regions that offer a facebook page to post your lunch sandwich. If you don't live in the Pacific Northwest then look up your region if interested.

I've met some of the founders of the Flights Above The Pacific NorthWest (FAT P & W) and they where young and enthusiastic. They use there facebook site for spontaneous fly-outs and whatever else facebook offers. I'm just looking for good forum slow topic conversation. :D Ya know, like discussing the Fly-Outs for weeks before and weeks after the event.

Welcome. I am also another Washington ex-pat. Most of my FAA logbook entries come from WA and OR, mostly WA.

Welcome from the other side of the country ,enjoy the forum.

I'm in Wenatchee. This is one of the most unfriendly airports in all the northwest so I don't bring up where I'm based very often. With that said, I'm heading back up to Alaska for half the summer. Much of my family still lives up there and I still hang with my old AK Pilots.

I've never found Wenatchee to be unfriendly. Maybe not the most welcoming, but more neutral than anything. I love flying in Alaska, though, and have known a few Alaska pilots over the years. They are the best, mostly (I do have one horror story).

Now, you're just teasing.
